Gov. Mary Fallin on Wednesday signed the bill that requires abortion clinics to have a physician with admitting privileges at a nearby hospital present when an abortion is done on an unborn baby.
When the state of Texas clamped down on abortion clinics that could not follow basic health and safety standards and failed to ensure abortion practitioners had admitting privileges at local hospitals in cases where women are injured in botched abortions, abortion clinics closed down because they couldnt comply. As many as 20 Texas abortion clinics have closed or stopping doing abortions.
oklalogo4Now, Oklahoma is following suit.
The pro-life bill will protect women by ensuring that abortionists have admitting privileges at a local hospital, which is a health and safety standard many abortion clinics who put womens health at risk cant meet.
Based on Americans United for Life model legislation found in the Womens Protection Project, the bill is designed to protect women from house of horrors clinics such as the clinic in which convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell operated.
Common-sense regulation of abortion clinics is not only popular with Americans, it represents the very least that the highly profitable abortion industry should do for women, said AUL President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest. For too long an under-regulated, rarely monitored and unaccountable abortion industry has pushed the boundaries of the law to increase profits. If abortion clinics are as safe as their lobby claims, why do they fight following the same kinds of standards that apply to other medical facilities?
The Oklahoma law would require that across the board standards be applied to every abortion clinic. Current law allows each clinic to submit their own operational plan for review by the state.
Across the country, news of women dying in abortion clinics has been too common and illustrates why under-regulated clinics should not be left to their own devices, said Dr. Yoest. Thanks to Senator Greg Treat and Representative Randy Grau for their leadership on this important bill.
Why are laws requiring abortion practitioners to hold admitting privileges necessary? Consider Angelas story.
Angela was twenty weeks pregnant when she walked into a dingy abortion clinic in Santa Ana, California, on August 7, 2004. Her abortion was completed in five minutes with little or no pain relief by an 84-year old abortionist, Phillip Rand, who rotated his time between several clinics throughout Southern California.
When he was done with Angelas abortion, he got in his car and began the three-hour drive on congested California freeways to another abortion clinic in Chula Vista, near the Mexican border, where he had more patients waiting. But when Angela started bleeding heavily, the two medical aids, who were the only ones left in the clinic, didnt know what to do. One called Rand and asked him to return to the clinic to help the hemorrhaging women, but Rand refused. He was already an hour or so away and didnt want to go back and risk losing business in Chula Vista. He told them to call 911 if she got any worse.
Angela did get worse much worse. By the time paramedics arrived, it was too late. They found her in a pool of her own blood. There was no oxygen or no crash cart at the clinic, but it is doubtful that the two minimally-trained aids would have know how to operate them if they had been available. Angela was transported to a local hospital where she later died.
One paramedic was so incensed by how he found Angela that he reported Rand to his supervisor who, in turn, notified the Medical Board. A signed declaration from the paramedic noted, This was the worst post-partum patient situation at a medical clinic I have ever encountered during my time as a paramedic. Twenty months later Rand surrendered his medical license.
For Angela, there was no continuity of care. Rand held no hospital privileges. This allowed him to operate well below the standard of care at the cost of one womans life.
Well, they're not rubber trees or bunny rabbits. They have their own unique human DNA identity, which makes them an individual.
Yup.
Governor is a she, Mary Fallin.
Well, unless you sacrifice the principles of unalienable rights and equal protection under the law to pretend to do it, while not actually doing it.
Lets close them down!
Hey moslems!
Infidels are killing moslem babies in there.
If you haven’t noticed, the left is in charge of government at the federal level. It might feel good to confront them head on, but we’ll get slapped down by this fascist regime. Our best hope for saving lives now is to do exactly what Oklahoma is doing.
Unless the bills are immoral and unconstitutional, and accomplish nothing but to further embed permission to kill babies in our laws.
No person shall be deprived of life without due process of law.
I agree with you 100%. While biologically, a ‘’fetus” (latin for ‘little one’) IS a human being, and most sensible people, including children realize this, our government denies it.
Right from the beginning, the numbers used to attempt to justify abortion (NARL) were lies. The head of NARL admitted it several years later.
People tried to say that they were concerned about coat-hanger abortions yet if you look at nursing text books from the late 60’s, and you read them along with the annontations, you will find that there might have been 3 deaths due to back alley/or coat hanger abortions. That’s it.
These abortion clinics don’t want to be associated with hospitals, because they don’t want to be associated with injuries due to abortions. There are more injuries due to legal abortions than there ever were for back alley/illegal abortions.
Any woman who walks into one of these clinics is literally taking her life into her own hands. You can’t trust what they tell you, you can’t even trust that you’re truly pregnant! And when you are all done, they send you out the back door so that the clients waiting in the waiting room for their turns, don’t see your puffy face from the tears you shed.
I know this FIRST HAND, not rumor mill.
If you’re ‘’out there’’ reading this and you know you are hurting from a prior abortion (not everyone is consciously aware of the impact abortion has had on them, subconsciously), there IS help for you. Find a crisis pregnancy center. If they don’t have post abortion counseling, then they know who does and where to refer you. CareNet is one such group which can be found on line for their 800 number. They will help to find a center near you. They aren’t everywhere so there could be other groups, but it’s a good place to start.
I’m truly glad to see that there are politicians out there who found a loophole around things such as requiring good medical back up. This industry has been hurting women and young girls for a very long time, and it’s time for that to stop.
I don’t know how you folks handled your sons and daughters as they grew up, or are growing up, but I talked openly with mine. I let them know that if they got pregnant, or got someone pregnant, I would probably be very angry because such a thing is GOING to have an impact on all lives and families concerned, but that I would do all that I could to protect that unborn life, that abortion is NOT the answer. No need for it, you have at least one set of parents who love you, and will stand with you.
It made all the difference in the world. There are two children who are in this world who otherwise wouldn’t have been. And also, their offspring. My eldest dau. told me later that she was headed for an abortion (was being pushed by her boyfriend) but because I embraced her despite my anger, and she knew I was a tad bit upset...but I literally put my arms around her and reminded her that despite the mistake she’d made with this fella, she was loved and so was her baby...
You know mom and dad, there’s nobody more precious to your kids than you!
These kids get brainwashed early on and as they mature in their teen years, they are convinced that you forgot what it was like to fall in love, that you can’t relate to what they think and feel and it’s all hogwash! But they don’t know that, and it’s up to YOU to keep those lines of communication open, even if you don’t like what you hear, at least try to understand their points of view. It makes a huge world of difference.
Don’t let your kids suffer infertility, or infections, or perforated uteruses, depression, inability to enter into intimate relationships, eating disorders, drug use, bulimia/anorexia, depression, grief, suicide, or death (abortion injuries) just because deception says that getting rid of the ‘’problem’’ is a ‘final solution’. It’s not. It’s a lie that catches up at some point. It may be 10 years down the road that it owns you, but at some point, it WILL, and a person might not even associate that past abortion with the disruptions in life they suffer.
Morgana, I’m glad that you continue to post this kind of information. Blessings to you!
