Pope Francis: Mahmoud Abbas is a “Man of Peace”
FrontPage Mag ^ | 05/27/2014 | Robert Spen

Posted on 05/27/2014 10:13:06 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

AP reported Sunday that “Pope Francis delivered a powerful boost of support to the Palestinians during a Holy Land pilgrimage Sunday, repeatedly backing their statehood aspirations, praying solemnly at Israel’s controversial separation barrier and calling the stalemate in peace efforts ‘unacceptable.’”

Not only that, but “Palestinian officials hailed Francis’ decision to refer to the ‘state of Palestine.’ In its official program, the Vatican referred to President Mahmoud Abbas as the president of the ‘state of Palestine,’ and his Bethlehem office as the ‘presidential palace.’ He pointedly called Abbas a ‘man of peace.’”

This is not really all that surprising. After all, this is the Pope who wrote last November that “authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence.” If “authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence,” then Abbas is certainly a “man of peace.”

Abbas is the “man of peace” who said on March 15, 2013: “As far as I am concerned, there is no difference between our policies and those of Hamas.” He said that while undoubtedly knowing that Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna is quoted in the Hamas Charter as saying: “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.” Hamas’s Al Aqsa TV has featured a music video that proclaimed: “Killing Jews is worship that draws us close to Allah.”

The “man of peace” heads up Fatah, which is hardly more “moderate.” Palestinian Media Watch reported on May 14 that “on one of its official Facebook pages the Fatah movement, which is headed by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, yesterday posted a warning to Israelis. A sign showed an assault rifle and a map of ‘Palestine’ that included both PA areas and all of Israel. In Arabic, Hebrew, and English it said: ‘Warning. This is a land of a Palestinian state and the occupation to leave immediately’ (English original).”

Likewise, in mid-March, Palestinian official Abbas Zaki, a close friend of the “man of peace,” declared: “These Israelis have no belief, no principles. They are an advanced instrument of evil. They say, the Holocaust, and so on – fine, why are they doing this to us? Therefore, I believe that Allah, will gather them so we can kill them. I am informing the murderer of his death.” Fatah has also vowed to “adhere to the option of armed resistance until the liberation of all of Palestine,” and threatened to “turn the beloved [Gaza] Strip into a graveyard for your soldiers, and we will turn Tel Aviv into a ball of fire.”

On top of all this, the spot where the Pope paused to pray at what AP called “Israel’s controversial separation barrier” – actually its security barrier – featured graffiti referring to the barrier as an “apartheid wall” and comparing Bethlehem to the Warsaw Ghetto. Middle East analyst Tom Gross noted that in reality, “the security barrier, which has saved countless lives, was built to protect Israelis after some 1000 civilians were killed by suicide bombers.” Israel did not build the barrier because of “racism” or a desire to emulate apartheid South Africa — to compare Israel to apartheid South Africa is a monstrous piece of disinformation, as a black South African has explained.

Moreover, Gross points out: “Bethlehem is a relatively prosperous town where restaurants and juice bars are packed, and BMWs, Mercedes and Humvees compete for parking spaces in the center or town. By contrast, 400,000 Jews were herded into the Warsaw Ghetto and those who weren’t beaten or starved to death there, were taken to be exterminated at nearby camps.”

In allowing himself to become an instrument of Palestinian jihad propaganda, and spreading that propaganda himself, the Pope has done a grave disservice to free people and aided and abetted the genocidal jihad against Israel. The damage resulting from his trip is impossible to calculate at this point, but it could be immense. Pope Francis’s jaunt in the “State of Palestine,” was a tremendous show of support for the jihad against Israel, and a dark day for the papacy, the Roman Catholic Church, and free people everywhere.

RE: Cue the “What the Pope Really Meant” crowd....

Well, speaking about “What the Pope REALLY meant”...

I am cutting and pasting a post from another FReeper.

Here is one of the comments at the Blaze article:

this story came from the AP, and they are notorious for recontextualizing.

The Pope did not say Abbas “you are a man of peace”,, he said “you are KNOWN as a man of peace”

“peace” is the basic philosophical tenant of Islam, it is attained by submitting to Allah. Therefore, islam is peace to Palestinians, but not in the Western context of nonviolence. So, when the Pope used the word peace, was he speaking to Palestinians or the West… he was speaking to Palestinians.

“you are known as a man of peace (Islam)”

I don’t know enough to gauge the insight, if it is one.

Other commenters opined that the pope is painting Abbas into a corner. Wishful thinking?

what we apparently have is the Joe Biden of popes.

Wish I could laugh but it hurts.

I'm afraid this pope has a "peaceful" one-world "religion" in mind.

I think this Pope has a talent for misspeaking and the mainstream media are well aware of it and willing to use it.
Once they identify a figure with this problem, especially a religious or conservative figure, they follw him/her like the pack of curs they are, waiting for more examples of misspeak.

Either by acutal design, or by ineptitude, he is unfit for the office which he holds.

Pope Francis is adamant in his repudiation of “capitalism” calling it a form of slavery.

Pope Francis’ Gospel is centered in his love for the poor, but he does not repudiate Marxism, the main purveyor of misery and slavery in the world. To his critics Francis has responded that he doesn’t care if is being call communist because he knows many good communists, in fact, he has close ties with the leaders and followers of Marxist Liberation Theology, a perversion of the Faith condemned by Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

Also Francis expressed his brotherly love for Muslims during his trip to Jerusalem.

Since the Communists have killed more Christians than the Nazis, and the Muslims have murdered more Christians than the Communists and the Nazis together, moreover, they still keep slavering and killing Christians!!! Does Francis share the same love for the Nazis than the one he expressed so eloquently for Communists and Muslims?

There is nothing--absolutely nothing--surprising about this. The ancient liturgical churches (of which the Catholic is the best known) simply have no use for a Jewish return to sovereignty in 'Eretz Yisra'el. Until very modern times they have always considered the Jewish expulsion from Israel as one of the "proofs" of chrstianity, and the Jewish return there has always been a theological problem for them.

Meanwhile, Jewish liberals and ecumenists fall all over the ancient churches because they are ethnic, non-missionary, and liberal. Genuinely philo-Semitic American Fundamentalist chrstians are treated like lepers because they talk funny and interpret Genesis literally, which to any "respectable" person means they're "stupid."

I often wonder what the much-touted new attitude towards the Jews was really all about if the collective Jewish return to Israel still has absolutely no meaning to Catholics. Apparently for VII Catholics philo-Semitism (which doesn't include support of Israel) is simply another form of ecumenical liberalism. So much for the "old covenant" still being in effect.

I wonder when someone will explain the Muslim practice of Taqiyya to the Pope. Taqiyya requires Muslims to lie to infidels in such a way that it will further the acceptance of Islam.

"Palestinian" chrstians are fanatically anti-Israel and pro-PLO. He's just doing what the Middle East's "indigenous" chrstians want him to do.

I just can’t believe what I am reading here. Oh well, when you elect a commie Pope from South America, I guess this is what you get. Where does Ann Barnhardt stand on the commie pope?

There were and are a lot of "anti-Communist" Catholics who blame Communism on the Jews and think Israel is the headquarters of the "new world order." And they support the PLO every bit as much as any Communist.

RE: “papal infallibility” has never been on greater display of its absurdity - the emperor has no clothes

___________________________________

I am not Catholic, and I don’t believe in Papal Infallibility, but let’s not misunderstand the term and what it intends to mean.

Papal Infallibility is a dogma of the Catholic Church that says “When, in the exercise of his office as shepherd and teacher of all Christians, in virtue of his supreme apostolic authority, he defines a DOCTRINE CONCERNING FAITH OR MORALS to be held by the whole Church.”, the Pope is preserved from the possibility of error.

This is referred to as speaking ex cathedra — Speaking from the Chair of St. Peter.

This particular statement Francis made about Abbas does NOT qualify as speaking ex cathedra, therefore, does NOT preserve him from error.

I don’t think I have in my lifetime seen any Pope officially speaking ex cathedra yet ( but I may be wrong ).
