With the Casinos, and tax free cigarettes etc...
This is just a good example of ‘unintended consequences’.
“We” were ok with the Indians on Reservations, give them booze to keep in line etc etc.
Some “S/A” said ... Well the least we can do is educate them.
Finally some of them made it through and got themselves into Law School and then people sat down and started reading what ‘they’ had been promised etc many moons ago.
Then the ‘schiesters’ that had been ‘wise to the White Mans Ways’ figured out that if ‘reversed’ the ‘Black reasoning’ - 1 ‘drop’ of black blood makes one Black.
Now the Schiesters found out that 1/32nd CLAIMED Indian Blood ‘made’ them full fledged Indians.
Now - for the most part - Some pols and Faux Indians are rolling in dough from the Casinos etc and WE are being forced to raise the ‘Quality of Life’ for the typical Reservation citizen - NOT the beaucoup bucks the Casinos are attracting.
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.
Yo 'creek. Long lost relative of Elizabeth (honest injin) Warren?
: )
Great granny did say she thought there was an injun in the woodpile somewhere.
Very interesting. Thanks for posting. Reparations anyone? Exalted collectives ALERT!
Another 5-4 from America’s robed mullahs, eh? My, what drama! No matter how you reconfigure these ‘rats, they’re usually coming down on the side of the collectives/FEDS instead of the states/individuals.
TRENDING TOWARD TOTALITARIANISM.
See something, say something ALERT!
The tobacco merchants on the reservations pay a limited tax on the tobacco THEY purchase for sales to members of their tribes.
Now YOU on he other hand, if you wish to purchase bulk cartons from these reservations via the internet, they will sell them to you but what they WON'T tell you is that whatever state you are purchasing from has the legal authority to obtain their sales records of all tobacco products shipped to buyers like you within their states then come after you for the unpaid tobacco within your state...............
I think what will come next—
Brothels— just like Nevada—
In reality, most of them were AA training grounds for most of their history. In hindsight, the US Govt should have required complete assimilation of the various tribes into US culture. I believe that it would have been best for their people.
Oh they didn't have to tell me. I saw how one operation rolled over and gave up sales records to the NY AG. Don't remember if it was a tribe or just an out of state vendor, but I quickly moved to roll your own after just a couple of carton purchases. Suited me well enough. I was saving even more making my own.
SCOTUS - pocus. Thanks cripplecreek.
just legalize all the casinos owned by anyone.
More often than not, tribal ownership of these casinos amounts to a name on paperwork and a handful of tribal members with big ass bank accounts. The MGM Grand and Greektown casinos are about as indian as my northern european butt.
Well, as far as “reparations” go, the Indian casinos could be considered as a type of reparation. Some tribes are doing very well due to the casinos.
Can we do the same thing with the ghetto? Take the south side of Chicago, for example, and allow black owned casinos?
Theoretically that could work, however, people would have to get over their fear of going down to the south side. As of now, people fear for their personal safety going there. Overcoming that just to do legal gambling might be a bridge too far.
Not a bad idea though.
There are big Casinos in downtown Detroit and look at the boom they’ve brought to the city. /s
I don’t know a thing about Detroit except that its appears to be dying.
Thanks for the map; posts. Interesting. BTTT!
It will be interesting to see how it goes here. At the height of the GM plant closures Lansing was heavily trending toward a landscape tawdry at best, WWII-era London at worst. The cleanup of the GM properties is slow and ongoing but the downtown stadium district, where the casino is headed, has been very steady.
What is the state of the casino environ in Detroit? I have no idea, to be honest. Except for Tigers games, a few trips to Belle Isle, and field trips to the museums, I haven't tooled aimlessly around the city in decades.
