Free Republic gets about 40,000 unique hits a day. Going to the state donor numbers, we get about 2300 donors. That is about a 5.5% rate of readers to donors.
My testimony is that Free Republic is the best website on the internet. Notice that I didn't say, "the best conservative, small government, pro-God, pro-Life, pro-Gun, etc." website. That is true, but Free Republic is more.
I just had a near real time discussion with a FRiend on freepmail.
I've had zero pop-ups, ads, thefts, etc. since 1998. It was all discussion all the time. Where else do you get that? Ive used my credit card in our secure system also since 1998 and Ive never had a problem. Target, Michaels, and Neiman Marcus should be so good.
This is the best discussion software ever created. Bar none. I can track every comment I've made, every response to it, and I can reply and reply again and again and again. All of that without the dreaded outline gradually indenting until all that remains is the right side of the screen page.
There are links back to previous comments, there are links that bring up all responses to a comment.
It amazes me how much like a conversation Free Republic is.
AND, we have a moderator staff dedicated both to free expression AND to maintaining the conservative identity of Free Republic and to banging heads when necessary. They get their marching orders from our main man, Big Jim Thompson, who, with his brother Matt Dillon, keeps the riffraff liberal troll deadbeats away from our town.
So, if you're part of the 94%, then Mitt Romney was talking about you. It got him in trouble.
It'll probably get me in trouble.
Brother, can you spare even a dime?

Implying 40,000 distinct entities making the requests?
BUMP
I find it surprising how few monthly donors are in places like Florida.
Shocked to see that are like 40-45 monthly’s from the entire state.
This place is great, but like any institution occasionally needs a shot in the arm.
Be nice if Cruz and Palin mentioned the site once in a while to drive new users here, maybe FR could do some question and answers with them to create some publicity.
The CPUSA and their comrades in DC have a vested interest in shutting this place down, we need an influx of new conservatives to find out about the site and join up.
It means 40,000 different addresses (people) that dialed in to Free Republic. There were probably far more total traffic hits. Each person probably hits multiple links while they’re here.
Got it, thanks.
Done and done. Thanks for the motivation!
While I do echo your sentiments and wish more FReepers would regard paying FR as a far better deal than any magazine or newspaper subscription ever was, this monthly donor says that I cannot find many a post to which I wish I had access because of the WaPo/LAT lawsuit. There was a lot of work I did: ideas, references, and analysis, that I wish I could recover. I don't know if those threads are gone or simply walled off, but I would like to know. At least there is the WayBackMachine, but without knowing the original URL, it can be hard to search.
If FReepers would support this site as they should, I am sure such work would be within reach. It's just too bad that so many conservatives don't realize the power of their purses, however meager they may be.
Amen! I became a monthly donor about one month after I joined FR in 2008. Been one ever since - minus one or two brief temper tantrums when I got butt hurt about something or another. No more of that nonsense for me. I wear big-girl panties now. :D
well said. i hope a few more of the 95% are shamed into paying for a service well worth paying for.
Unless the thread is all about you and the particular state in which you live.
'Ay, you say that like everyone else actually BELIEVES that! I seem to recall not too long ago reading someone's posting that they saw that someone had contributed a bit over six US dollars to FR and was kind of snickering about it.
For those of us who are disabled and have no form of gainful employment, it is as much as we can do sometimes to contribute what we can to help out, and though I would like very much to be able to contribute the generous amounts that poster thinks should be made, I would like to point out that I contribute at least what I can, in whatever amounts I can pull together at the time. As do some others, I suspect. It may not be much to some of you, but it is the best that can be done and at the expense of other things at that.
FR is truly a blessing and although I would like to contribute more (or shame quite a few others into contributing more -not that they bother to read threads like these, mind- and often) I am unfortunately able to at this time. So, I contribute what I can for a good cause.
Would love to become a monthly donor but the best I would be able to do would be to make a verbal (or email) promise to JimRob to do so, since I could not guarantee that I would be able to do so every month without fail.
Actually, I have often wondered why such greats like El Rushbo would not contribute, as often as he appears to be relying on info from this site.
Among others.
Then again, he might be doing so quietly and simply asking that he be anonymous. I suppose that is possible. Others might consider contributing as well: Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, Greg Gutfeld (sp?), Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz...
Just to name a very few...
Then again, it was longer than that before I was able to contribute at all, but I blame that on the recession at the time and barely able to scrape together enough to eat most times due to it.
Still, when I did finally have a bit extra I began contributing what I could -as it seemed only fair.
*Ahem*... "unfortunately NOT able to...
Sorry. Getting tired.
Amen to that. Mine’s on the way. Thank you.
I don't even consider subscribing to such anymore. The technology has moved ahead, but Free Republic sorts and condenses the major news and opinion and then provides a discussion format that enables us truly to discuss it from a conservative perspective.
This is all the more important because of one final problem with our major media: they no longer value truth at all. They deliver spin, propaganda, and sometimes outright error.
A site like Free Republic helps sort through propaganda.
Brother Utilizer, if you are contributing even a penny, then you are in the 5%.
More than that it says that you care.
Some are more and some are less blessed than others with available cash. We all know there are those who make excuses, but there are also those who care and do what they can.
You are part of the latter group....and that makes you part of the 5%!
