I worked for Searle for years. Enovid has always been known by doctors as an effective, though powerful contraceptive ... it is a high dose medication in a woprld where losest dose that works is considered best. The follow-up contraceptive to Enovid was Ovulen, still a high dose hormone medication. That drug led to the development of Demulen, a more measured dose of hormone therapy to prevent ovulation, as all three were aimed at doing. The Enovid was so strong in suppressing ovulation that when the patients stopped the drug, they popped out ovum like popcorn, enhancing fertility.
