When we have high, gusty Santa Ana winds like we do today, I almost expect to see a column of smoke or two in the distance.

The Carlsbad fire was basically across the street from the building I work at. We watched the fire advance down the canyon near the power lines and could see the flames attempting to climb out of the canyon although at the time the wind was blowing it along the street(Camino Vida Roble) at the bottom of the road we work on (Corte Del Nogal), which is perpendicular to that canyon. Eventually, the winds and embers forced the fire department to order a mandatory evacuation a little over 2 hours ago and now I'm at home watching the news and hoping the building I work in doesn't burn down.

It is 65 in Tulsa right now. Will get down to 47 tonight. Cold. I've only run the AC once this year so far - on Mother's day. I love global cooling.
Change is the only constant in climate.

It is HOT and DRY here. Pretty bad.

Lucky the Santa Anna winds are not present!Nevertheless, FOX had a bulletin on these fires and some arresting clips of "fire-nados" where the flames were shaped into mini-tornado-like vortices by the heat and wind. It was an arresting visual.

It’s not Santa Anna it’s Santa Ana for the city river and canyon.

Nevada fire fighters up here are all salivating and waiting by the phones hoping to get called to the California fires, as usual this time of year.
Bigtime pay, triple overtime, per diem meals (three hots!), hotel rooms, equipment maintenance they just don't get in NV, hot showers, buffet lines, all that and more with California paying through the nose for every last penny to stop a wildfire where it would make far more economic and ecologic sense to allow it to just burn itself out.
Nevada fire fighters just LOOOOOVE them some Calfornia fires. California spends billions. BEEEEEEELIONS. Wish California burned all year long!
"Awww yeah! California on FIRE! Gonna buy me a brand new shiny red Ford Super Duty F350 Lariat King Ranch with the Powerstroke Diesel!" they're all saying. You better believe.

Wish California burned all year long! As some one who has five different fires to the north and south of my house, I find your comment sickening.
