the Senate hearings to flush out Clinton’s illegal transfer of satellite guidance systems technology to Chicoms in exchange for campaign donations. We had the goods on them, but John Glenn was designated the hatchet man. Glenn quibbled, bitched and moaned to trash, blur and slant everything, making it total chaos and fluster cluck.

I remember that. Glenn's testimony was the only part of the hearings which got media coverage. It was obviously a setup and everyone on the Dem side was in on it.

I just went back and reviewed it (1996 campaign finance scandal - Charlie Trie, Johnny Chung, John Huang, Maria Hsai, Riady family, Lippo Group et al. It was bad. Krauthammer said it was willfully impeded. Bob Woodward, Justice Dept all calling it a big scandal. But John Glenn stood toe-to-toe with Chairman Fred Thompson and the GOPe blinked and media tamped it down.

Dan Burton chaired the House investigation, and the media basically turned him into more of a crackpot than he was.

I like Trey Gowdy but he has a Herculean task ahead of him.
