NEW YORK -- It took nearly the entire draft, but Michael Sam and the NFL finally made history.
The St. Louis Rams used the 249th pick in the seventh round to select Sam, who has officially become the league's first openly gay player.
Being picked by St. Louis means Sam will stay in the state where he played college football as a standout at the University of Missouri.

The Jokes just write themselves.
We’re thinking alike. Except you said “junk” and I said “stuff”.
If he makes the team this will increase the Ram’s TV audience. People will watch the freak show.
NFL - National Faggot League
need cheerleader pic antidotes
bundle of sticks?
Arrrghhhhh..... tell me you're joking! Uggh gross.
Aw, I was kind of rooting for ‘Ram a lama ding dong’.
(1) The LGBT community will call for boycotts and violence against the NFL
(2) Obama will weigh in
(3) Rams will apologize profusely, donate millions to homosexual causes
(4) Rams change jerseys to pink and logo to a man "ramming" another man
“We can’t sing and our dancing’s not pretty but we’ll do our best for the team and the city.”
Awesome.
The new Rams' Cheerleaders.
But of course, Sam didn’t want his sexuality to be a distraction.
some, most will not want to be seen watching a homosexual sideshow.
Bars will have lower business.
ad shares will drop.
When you go to a sportsbar demand the the rams be removed from any tv viewing.
Tebow was "crucified" for his Christian beliefs and Christian based life. You could even say ridiculed. If the kid missed one pass he was held to a degree of accountability that no other NFL QB has ever been held to.
This "guy" will be lauded and heralded for coming out and being the "first"....which I seriously doubt is the case. If you're in the locker room you know who's homo and who's hetero.
If this dude can't tackle worth a dime not one word will be said and he will quietly go away as a story.
I wonder if this nation is in the Days of Noah?
Chris Kluwe just became a Rams’ fan.
... HEH, HEH, he said “make a team”...
He’s not beating out any of the starters like Robert Quinn or Chris Long and it’s unlikely he can even break the DL rotation.
Practice Squad player at best if that.
Hope the Rams are ready for the blowback when they cut him.
There’s no future in the NFL for DE’s that run a 4.9 40
The Rams had three 7th round picks. This was a throw away pick.
There’s no way any team in the NFL can carry dead weight.
