NEW YORK -- It took nearly the entire draft, but Michael Sam and the NFL finally made history.
The St. Louis Rams used the 249th pick in the seventh round to select Sam, who has officially become the league's first openly gay player.
Being picked by St. Louis means Sam will stay in the state where he played college football as a standout at the University of Missouri.

"Gimme an H gimme an O gimmie an M gimmie and O.. and a yooohooo!"
Sadly, you’ve nailed it.
Ah if Tebow only missed one pass...
Tebow was cut because he was incapable of playing his position at the NFL level. Yet people persist is claiming he was cut repeatedly for his religious beliefs. Likewise if - or when - Sams shows he's incapable of playing his position at the NFL level there will be those who insist he was cut because he is gay. In both cases the reason for the cut will be the same - lack of ability.
My son could not stop laughing at the irony
Q; Whats going to happen when Sam gets cut and doesnt make the team?
A: He’ll become a gay porn star.
Mike Sam: Still not as round-heeled as Jim Everett.
You know, you could just replace the "H" with an "R".........Just sayin'.
my point was that he was held to a different standard because of his faith. I've never claimed he was cut because he was a Christian, but he caught grief for it.
Or how about top struggling for excuses to send liberals money and justifying it? Because whatever money goes to cable dish funds their agenda. And no amount of rationalizing it or piecemealing it changes the fact.
We have a free choice. We can either send them money or not. But people that freely send them cash ARE funding the gay and other agendas.
I cared until they moved to Anaheim and lost all interest soon after.
What’s to say the NFL doesn’t create a position within the front office for him? Perhaps as some sort of liaison between the League and the LGBT community in order to increase visibility and gain viewers within the homosexual ranks. Director of LGBT Initiatives (or something along that line).
“NO WAY would any normal person want to be seen at a rams appearing game.
now we go after the sponsors.
The NFL just committed suicide.”
I think you are vastly over-estimating how much average people care about this. Which I suspect is not at all. If no media attention was focused on this, 99% of football fans would not even notice. A couple of homosexuals in a San Fransisco bar clapping their hands (although they never watch football) is the extent of the public reaction to this.
Can he play well? I suspect not really.
Good! I wish more would do likewise.
I thought that title belonged to the Seahawks?
Seven more picks and he would have been Mr. Irrelevant.
If he’s openly gay he should just put some pants on. Problem solved.

Did you see this?
For the first time since 1937, the Longhorns failed to have a player selected in the NFL draft. Texas was one of just five schools from college football’s five power conferences (Big 12, SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12) to suffer the ignominious feat. Illinois, Northwestern, Rutgers and fellow Big 12 member Kansas were the others.
LOL! Agreed!
