Researchers at the New Jersey Institute of Technology advise that the next generation of biometric-equipped smart guns is as little as two years away from being fully mature.
These guns would use Dynamic Grip Recognition, which is a series of electronic sensors and microchips housed inside the grip of the handgun. These piezoelectric sensors record the users grip signature, which then either allows or disallows access to the trigger package.

“If they really do this right, they can also equip them all with GPS trackers, and micro-switches that allow the likes of Eric Holder to turn them off at his discretion.”
And dont even think for one pico second that the current administraton or even a Republican amdin wouldn’t hesitate for a moment to use the system to shut them down if they have that power!
They can NOT be trusted!
A solution for a problem which does not exist.
Any business, gun shop that sells this will be on my boycott list and never get another dime from me.
And as they are fully mature, the proper proof of this is to equip all police departments with only these weapons.
No reliability issues there. :-)
The man is on a business trip.
The wife needs the weapon for home defense. Someone is beating the door in.
Sorry, the grip doesn’t recognize her handprint.
She’ll have to use a broom.
If one or more firearms companies offers this “dynamic . . . smart gun” or any other “smart gun”, I will boycott that company forever. If a dealer, including an Internet site, offers any smart gun (even if they learn from the mistake and later withdraw the listing), I will boycott them forever. This is not a question of free choice, not when the anti-gun left wants to mandate this monstrosity for everyone even those who want reliable firearms. As a free choice, I would never buy an intentionally unreliable firearm. Since it’s not a free choice, I will never buy from a manufacturer or retailer who offers any variant of unreliable firearm and infringes on my free choice.
“Gee, what could possibly go wrong with that?”
That pretty well sums it up...
So it can recognize these tell-tale signs from all family members (and friends) all on one gun?
If not, then this “technological breakthrough” isn’t as good as the current, mechanical product.
It takes serious ignorance of guns to think that this is “smart.”
Exactly. When the adrenaline kicks in, you will be a complete stranger to that weapon.
All family and friends —
Keep their biometric hand signature on the icloud.
Then the gun can download whichever one is needed when the gun is picked up.
This is not a problem. Apple and Google will ensure we are all safe.
As long as the gun is still waterproof.
I see only one way this could go: if it is mandated by government, so that the company survives solely because of this mandatory handout.
Otherwise, it should be faced with an early boycott, so that if it doesn’t get a favorable law, it goes out of business.
You're in a desperate fight for your life. You're wounded and have to shoot off-hand or your trigger finger is disabled.
Naw, nothing can go wrong.
Bingo. BTT
Whoops, forgot to change the batteries.
All you need is one Bloomberg funded gun store to sell them and a couple of lefties to buy them; then the ban can begin!
Yet another enterprise destined to go broke.
Secret service first. Then federal agents. Then local law enforcement. Otherwise hell no.
“HMM! Are the batteries fresh? Am I holding the grip EXACTLY the same way?”
