Billionaires buy whatever they want. And not just mansions and Teslas but elections and legislation. The recent Supreme Court decision lifting caps on campaign contributions gives them even more power. The libertarian Koch brothers have already pumped millions into this years elections. But Michael Bloomberg, Mark Zuckerberg, Rupert Murdoch and George Soros are no less guilty of buying our political system, and all of them, from libertarian Koch brothers to liberal Soros, are united in one cause: Bring in more foreign workers, increase job competition, and allow market forces to drive down wages.
Since 2007, political lobbies spent a whopping $1.5 billion to expand immigration, according to the watchdog Sunlight Foundation. A mind boggling array of Washington power brokers are behind that money: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, AFL-CIO, American Immigration Lawyers, National Association of Manufacturers, National Restaurant Association and others. A few years ago, former Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, sent me a 12-page list of Washington lobbies working for expanded immigration. Talk about David and Goliath.
But how do you convince Americans that its good for us to import millions of new foreign workers? Create a media blitz based on slogans, misinformation, political theater and guilt:
1. Whine about dire labor shortages.
Its bogus. Thirteen percent of workers are unemployed or involuntarily working part-time. Each year, America produces twice as many science and engineering graduates as jobs, resulting in unemployment rates as high as 11 percent for information system workers. How will adding millions of new workers help them?
2. Feed the press false reports on deportations.
When comprehensive immigration reform was introduced last year, our press was filled with stories about tough enforcement and record deportations. We know its bunk. Deportations from internal enforcement dropped 40 percent under the present administration.
3. Play the race card.
Claim opponents are xenophobes, afraid of them. Ignore the fact that multiple government commissions recommended decreased immigration levels, and that after workplace raids, African-Americans often got the jobs previously held by illegal workers.
4. Pull out the violins.
More stories about divided families. Illegal immigrants chose to divide their own families when they came here. We dont separate families.
5. Create multiple political front organizations, such as Bloombergs Partnership for the New American Economy, whose membership includes the CEOs of nearly every major corporation.
This well-funded megaphone parrots the mantra that immigration will make the economy grow. Its technically accurate but disguises the real issue: Will immigration increase per-capita
But we don't have a national asset or property tax. We have an income tax.
In other words, people that actually work for a living will pay.
Billionaires buy *whatever* they want.
corrected: whomever.
McLame and the rest of the Gang. Graham. Boehner.
Every greedy GOP-e pieceOS and all the Democrats.
No because 99.9% would not be paying the taxes that they need to pay. Very few people who work would be paying them. These very wealthy billionaires want socialism than they should pay the socialist taxes that they are causing either by design, stupidity or greed.
So a newspaper from liberal Maine gets it but GOP elite doesn’t.
I’m beginning to think all this talk about immigration reform is all about keeping John McCain’s job.
How do we fight this Goliath?
Billionaire’s don’t bother me. Liberals are the problem. Liberal billionaires are a big problem.
I agree that they ought to but the federal government has no power to tax wealth. They instead have the power the tax income.
Rich Democrats count on the public not knowing the difference. It allows them to call for increased taxes on the rich while avoiding real tax increases on themselves.
Kerry and Buffet are good examples. How much would an increase in income taxes really hurt them? Not much.
Legal immigration drives down wages far more than illegal immigration. We have brought in 29 million LEGAL IMMIGRANTS since 1990.
Bingo. If they pass this amnesty than they should pay all of our taxes and their own as well. screw them for doing this.
we do need some immigration reforms
some that do have some support in Congress
and some that should not be supported in Congress but are supported by too many in Congress
the monster omnibus all encompassing “immigration reform” bills ARE attempts to make sure the worst changes, the most damaging changes get included
and when that meets resistance the claim is made that NOT getting any “immigration reform” bill is going to make the situation worse, when in fact, just as with the last “immigration reform” bill, many of the “reforms” WILL make things worse, not better
Freeze all immigration till the economy absorbs what we have and deport all the illegal criminals only exceptions the super smart better to work here than in China..or India
“How do we fight this Goliath?”
That’s the million dollar question. Once Americans stopped breeding peasants for the ruling class, they decided they’d simply import them. The charade became obvious when the same proponents kept pushing it despite (real) unemployment near 20%. The feudal lords need more peasants for their national manor, to feed them and buy at the company store...
87% of the 1.1 million legal immigrants who enter annually are minorities as defined by the USG. By 2019 have of the children 18 and under will be minorities and by 2043 we will become a majority minority country.
half vice have
