Responding to Georgia's new "guns everywhere" law, Archbishop Wilton Gregory of Atlanta has pledged to keep guns out of Catholic churches, schools and other institutions.
...
"Before this legislation takes effect in July, I will officially restrict the presence of weapons in our Catholic institutions except for those carried by the people that civic authorities have designated and trained to protect and guard us, and those who are duly authorized by law and military officials," Gregory wrote.
...
Georgia has always banned licensed weapons in churches, but the new legislation drops the penalty to a $100 fine and the legal charge to a misdemeanor
...
"The last thing we need is more firearms in public places, especially in those places frequented by children and the vulnerable," Gregory wrote.
...
"The version of gun control that passed really offers churches no real protection, other than a fine for those licensed holders who might bring a weapon," Georgia Catholic Conference head Frank Mulcahy told the National Catholic Reporter.
...
"In this nation of ours, they have seldom been the locations where violence has disrupted the otherwise peaceful atmosphere," he added. "Yet even those occasions -- rare as they may be -- are not sufficient reasons to allow people to bring more weapons into God's house."
He charged that the new law "de facto makes firearms more available in places where they may allow violence to escalate."

No. That was Eugene Marino, an earlier (late '80s) black archbishop of Atlanta
Just Guessing, but from the radical left stance of the Catholic church on everything EXCEPT reproductive issues, I would guess someone other than Romney. Although Romney wasn't all that conservative either.
Gotta get those priorities in line with the official USCCB support of gun control
A number of them jumped on the anti-gun bandwagon too.
I agree, and it's not the first foolish decision he's made recently. He had a 2.2 million dollar mini-mansion built for his residence, but the word got out, and the complaints about someone who took a vow of poverty living in such luxurious quarters has forced him to put the house on the market.
Not the way he phrased it, but I'm pretty sure he meant the police.
He's going by the radical left USCCB's most recent policy on guns The USCCB has a long history of being anti-gun, pro wealth transfer, supporting illegal immigration, etc. In fact except for reproductive issues, they're in line with the progressive wing of the Democratic party.
Entirely too logical for this bishop.
Logic isn't the strong suite of anti-gunners
Logic and reason have no place in the minds of the Catholic hierarchy who want to ban guns.
An error of ignorance.
“Sorry, your Excellency. Unicorns, the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny, and righteous socialism do not exist. Nor are the police there to baby sit the public. If someone attacks any of your churches, the police will not be able to stop them. They can, however, “police” up the Earthly remains of your congregants and clergy, and give you their condolences.
“However, if so much as a single congregant ignores your fanciful wishes, he might save the lives of many people, giving you at least an opportunity to save their souls.”
Willful ignorance on Gregory's part. He's just as capable as anyone else of looking at the gun free zone at FedEx and seeing what happened there (not once, but twice that I'm aware of), but he turned a blind eye to it in his rush to get a politically correct (read socalist) response to the new law.
1. Not your churches, they belong to God, putatively, or the Pope, ceremonially.
2. You gonna frisk me?
I'll guess they're WCC member churches:
