In a segment that even Rush Limbaugh admitted would probably get picked up by an army of his critics (hi!), the conservative radio host pretty much ran with a caller's theory today that Clippers owner Donald Sterling was set up.
That theory makes one big assumption: that Magic Johnson, the subject of Sterling's latest recorded racist rant, orchestrated the whole controversy in order to open up an opportunity to buy the Clippers for a lower price.
Sterling was suspended for life from the NBA today, and the league will try to force him to sell his team.

My tag line
I’m pretty certain the theory didn’t start with Limbaugh.
As a final “f— you” to the NBA, I think Sterling should GIVE the team to Cliven Bundy.
I go with the simplest theory. His golddigger girlfriend recorded it for ammunition should she need it. Sterling’s wife sued the golddigger last month, so the ammo was fired.
What’s the BIG DEAL..?
Rush was going to buy a team, and the NFL **totally screwed him out of it**....!
He loves the heck out of sports and they needlessly and viciously stabbed him in the heart for it. They used his interest to KICK HIM IN THE TEETH ON THE NATIONAL STAGE:
Rush worked in pro sports even before his talk radio gig, and in view of his history WHY SHOULDN’T Rush be a whole LOT paranoid...? Later Rush was fired by the Kansas City Royals.
I don’t like Sterling’s comments but this is NOT about that:
WHO believes the clap-trap that the Clippers will end up being sold at $1 BILLION —ridiculous.
Because of this set-up they’ll go for a FIRE-SALE PRICE.
What just happened to Sterling almost happened to Rush, with LawSchoolBirthControlHO —even though Rush doesn’t have one racist atom in his whole glistening, naked body.
Rush has a trillion reasons to be suspicious about this.
Snerdly, is that you?
No. Sterling needs to sell it to one of the Russian or Ukrainian oligarchs for much more than the half a billion being mentioned. That brings in an owner that would probably be anti-gay. I wonder how that would set with Silver.
That’s a good idea, too.
Is that the son? USA Today was running a news feed that he died and was found in his home today.
Iof you listen to the audio tape it is clear that the girlfriend (recording the call) set it up to trap him in a gaffe. That’s clear. Who else was behind it is not clear. However Rush’s caller’s theory is as good as anyone else’s. Someone will get a deal on this team - assuming they even want the team.
Next - outsiders will try to force down the price so the owner does not make much money.
Rush didn’t make this up. The website VDare.com came up with this 2days ago.
This is someone who is ambitious, intoxicated with the raw power this racio-political moment has given her, and FAIRLY CRAZY.
This woman makes a really good candidate for long-term sleeper Agent of Professional Destruction.
P.S. - I freaking hate Donald "Sterling" but I'm not quite completely stupid
A classic among Rush’s Rules applies here:
“Always, follow the money.”
If they force him to sell he should do all he can to gut the team and its value then retire to a private island to live his last couple years smiling.
Or better yet pick someone he trusts and sell it to them for almost nothing. What does he need with more money he is 81.
That would be nice. Sell it for $1
This is all about someone wanting to buy the team at a discount, so #1 don’t let those people get it and sell it to someone for $1 with the stipulation that they can’t sell it for 25 years or more.
“They” may want him to sell the team but not cheaply.
Remember old Don bought it back in ‘81 for a mere 12 million bucks.
The fedgov is gonna collect taxes on a half billion or more capital gain.
As stated by others, Rush isn’t the first, lots of voices on the right have been pointing out some of the relationships and motivations of the players, and drawing some inferences and positing about rational economic interest playing a part in the utterly irrational hype about this non-event.
Despite what the media and leftists would like you to believe, we’re not mindless drones that get our marching orders from a voice in a studio somewhere. If that were the case then by definition we’d be liberals.
It’s usually the other way ‘round, our studio voices get their stories from us and simply preach to the choir. Good business model all around, especially when your delivery is artful enough to prod some indignant wails out of the liberal peanut gallery.
