You should never say that you intend to kill anyone. You shouldn't even say that you shot someone. Here is what you tell the police:
"I discharged my firearm in the direction of the assailant."

I use the ‘highlighted statement’ as to the ‘unwritten’ rule that you don’t pull the trigger unless you intend to finish the job.
This ‘why didn’t you shoot to hit the pistol’ or such is downright foolish. This isn’t the movies. You don’t ‘wing em’ on purpose.
As to the police....LAWYER PLEASE - after seeking medical attention for ‘stress’ etc.
When speaking to the police, I am a true advocate in ‘what you say can and will be held against you’ whether you have been ‘Mirandadized’ or not.
That said, if you try to break into my home or hijack...etc...etc...
