A federal judge in Milwaukee has struck down Wisconsin's voter Identification law, saying it unfairly burdens poor and minority voters.
U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman issued his long-awaited decision Tuesday. It invalidates Wisconsin's law.
Wisconsin's law would have required voters to show a state-issued photo ID at the polls. Supporters said it would cut down on voter fraud and boost public confidence in the integrity of the election process.
But Adelman sided with opponents, who said it disproportionately excluded poor and minority voters because they're less likely to have photo IDs or the documents needed to get them.
Wisconsin's law was only in effect for a 2012 primary before a Dane County judge declared it unconstitutional.

But you know them po’ folks will be getting free cigs. Just for voting Democrat.
If he did that, Scott Walker would get my vote on a national ticket.
bkmk
That’s the thing for me....it’s an assertion that should be proven before striking it down. I don’t believe it to be true, just because a judge says so doesn’t make it true either.
I thought that you had to show evidence of injustice first, not just assume that it would cause it??
We all know why they don’t want this. The other aspect of this is; how many of these “poor and minority” voters, assuming some couldn’t get an ID, actually vote? I doubt many...along with the adjustment for voter fraud, what’s the delta?
Can’t I make the argument that unless we have voter ID then we have little to no means of, not only eliminating voter fraud but, DETECTING voter fraud. If a few voters can’t get an ID (which I think is a racist assertion too, it assumes they’re not capable of doing so) how is that offset from fraud in the entire system? There’s a higher obligation to first make sure there’s no way to commit fraud.
These decisions by these judges are hyper-partisan - anybody that works for the state favors Democrats....getting very tired of it. We no longer live in a Constitutional Republic.
I believe 0bamacare requires photo ID.
That will supply everyone with the ID they need to vote.
Problem solved!
These judges are either scared sh!!less or being paid ‘bonuses’ for they’re decisions.
Funny how the defense lawyers don’t research and find ways to strike judges like that to avoid such liberal activist rulings.
One more state told that they don’t have states rights. Maybe it’s time the states BLOCK these federal judges.
If they sit on a court in that state then ARREST them for violating the state constitution. Make their lives miserable.
I’d like to know how these same burdened people who find it so difficult and unfair to acquire a simple ID card to verify who they are when voting have no problem going out to purchase (have to by Obama’s law) Obamacare.
It’s ridiculous. I’m sick and tired of libs whining that every single aspect of life is “hard” or “impossible” for the “poor and minorities”.
Do these libtards live in the real world? (/rhetorical) Ever stand behind a food stamp user in a grocery store? They have iphones but no ID?
Adelman and these stupid judges are retarded.
I thought the SOTUS already made a decision on this and voted just the opposite.
Now I’m confused.
Or they are activists committed to the donkey crook agenda...
A federal judge in Milwaukee has struck down Wisconsin’s voter Identification law, saying it unfairly burdens stupid minority voters.
Ill bet the poor and minority people need an ID to get into this judges courthouse.
Federal Judge strikes down WI voter ID law.
Freep mail me if you want on, or off this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Do the voters matter? I’ve lived here 27 years, and this law has been passed umpteen times over that period — all for naught!
I see this is Adelman — that POS. This is at least the 2nd time he has done this. Tommy Thompson thought it’d be cool to appoint him judge to get him out of the legislature. He’s the ‘gift’ that keeps on giving -— like an STD.
What was he caught doing a couple of years ago? Taking a petition, or nomination papers, into the bathroom and signing in secret?
I always ask these idiots if there is an extremely low incidence of burglaries in their area, are they willing to remove all the locks from their doors?
It’s the same thing here. Voter I.D. is the “lock” on our election system integrity.
