Since 1956, Transnistria has been home to Russias 14th Army who has capitalized on its convenient strategic geographic position to garrison troops and stockpile munitions. The collapse of Soviet rule in Moldova had inspired hopes that such troops would depart the states newly-liberated territory. On August 27th 1991 the Moldovan Parliament comprised of MPs from across the countrys territory passed a declaration calling on Russia to "to terminate the illegal state of occupation and annexation and the withdrawal of Soviet troops from its national territory".
Despite a binding agreement between Moldovas Prime Minister Andrejz Sangheli and Russias Viktor Chernomyrdin signed on 21st October 1994 in which the Russian Federation pledged to "relocate troops to other sites" and guarantee "the political settlement of the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova", the 14th Army remains in situ today.
More than two thousand troops Russian remain on Transnistrian soil;[....]
All Moldovan attempts to reclaim their sovereign territory have failed; the most notable being the little-known War of Transnistria between March and July 1992 where the 14th Army strongly backed the attempts of local ethnic Russian militias in their attempts to prevent the territory from integrating with the newly-sovereign Republic of Moldova.

Only one a third of Transnistria's forty-three Members of Parliament were actually born inside the province's territory [...] only three appear to be Moldovan citizens while fourteen are Russian nationals, many of whom are former KGB agents and Red Army commanders.

In July 2004 the Transnistrian authorities forcibly closed four of the six schools in the province teaching the Moldovan language (a dialect of Romanian) using the Latin rather than Cyrillic alphabet.[....]
Since the collapse of the USSR, [...] numerous Soviet weapons from handguns to nuclear suitcase bombs - have simply gone missing from Transnistria.

They’re doing God’s work to hear some Putinistas tell it.
The Slavic population did not want to live under Moldovan rule.
It has applied to become a constituent entity of the Russian Federation.
BTW, both Russians and Ukrainians are united in Transnistria and don’t want Romanian rule there.
This article is a nice try to demonize them, but all that crap written would look more authentic being applied to Kosovo.
There is also a Bulgarian population.
So yes, most of those on the east side of Dniester River are not ethnic Romanian.
Ukraine/Putin ping
So I guess Moscow has a claim on South Beach and Brighton Beach too since they Russian minority populations?
Transnistria is literally run by Russian KGB murderers and criminals wanted on arrest warrants for murder by Interpol, and supported by Russian military officers, past and present. Moldova would have quickly regained control from the fake Russian militias had it not been for the direct intervention of the Russian 14th Army fighting the Moldovan and Rumanian aremd forces. These Russian criminals have even stolen former Soviet nuclear suitcase bombs. The indigenous non-Russian majority have tried to rid themselves of the murderous and tyrannical mobster rule of these foreign Russians controlling their communities, but the Russian Army and Transnistrian MGB branch of the Russian FSB secret police torture and murder anyone who dares to speak in even a hint of dissatisfaction much less opposition to the criminal Russian regime.
“The Slavic population did not want to live under Moldovan rule.”
“It has applied to become a constituent entity of the Russian Federation.”
You are a liar, because it is a Russian KGB officer wanted by Interpol on a multiple murder warrant for his arrest who has asked the Russian Federation to annex them while holding the majority Moldovan population as prisoners in their own homes with the assistance of the Soviet-Russian 14th Army.
Transnistria:
Lots of Pro Soviet communist Jews were killed by the Nation Socialists (Hitlers and his local lackeys) around the time of World War 2.
I am sure many Russians remember their friends, neighbour’s, and ancestors
