"racially inflammatory remarks"
He did nothing of the kind. He observed the anger of rioting blacks in the sixties and said, "We don't want to go back there." He said, "Don't tell me [Hispanics] are lazy and don't pay taxes." He expressed regard for their [Hispanic] family life, even if some of his observations might be out-of-date. He sometimes WONDERED if black families were stronger in the days of slavery (very debatable, since slave marriage was illegal in many places); he did not say they WERE stronger, or that we should go back to slavery. But even many blacks say that they are worse off than they were in the sixties.
He observed - with apparent compassion - the aimlessness of life on the government dole. He did not say blacks were lazy, or did not want to work.

The NYT started this, and they obviously played a part in the selective editing and deception. But I reserve my ire for the so-called patriots on FR who without fail run for cover when the heat gets turned up. They are useless. You can’t do any nut-cutting if you won’t even come off the fence.
