The new fad for “somatoform disorder” has every parent with a chronically-ill child worried.
There is actually a strong basis for suing the hospital for rushing to make this diagnosis. Another child with mitrochondrial disorder was slapped with that somatoform diagnosis and the family dealt with child protective services, though the child is with the family.
And there are several other cases of the hospital calling in child protective services when the family disagreed with the doctor.
I didn't realize it had reached the level of a fad. Could be -- isn't the BCH psychiatrist who started all this doing "research" to prove somatoform disorder is the true cause of 50% of childhood illnesses?
