First they find out their doctor's not in the network. Then when finally finding a doctor that will treat them he's 40 miles away. Then at the doctor's office they discover they must spend $6,000 on visits and meds before their policy kicks in. So even if they're getting a 100 percent subsidy they're screwed. Next stop—the local emergency room.
The reality is that most have a $400 to $750 monthly payment, and a $5000 to $6000 a year deductible. You might have been peppy doing all the computer stuff....but when you analyze the numbers and try to budget this for a whole year, it’s just not that practical. A guy making $50,000 just doesn’t have that much cash around to throw. So you make decisions...new car this year, or waste $4800 on health insurance?
