The conservative lawyer who defended Californias ban on gay marriage at the Supreme Court is at work on another project: planning his daughters upcoming same-sex wedding ceremony.
Charles J. Cooper, a former top official in the Reagan Justice Department and onetime Republican lawyer of the year, learned of his daughters sexual orientation during the legal battle over Californias Proposition 8, according to journalist Jo Beckers soon-to-be-released book chronicling the movement to legalize same-sex marriage.
Ashley Lininger became engaged to a woman identified in the book only as Casey just after the Supreme Court accepted the Proposition 8 case in December 2012. Cooper, a noted Supreme Court practitioner, argued the case in March 2013.
The court ruled against Coopers clients, saying they did not have legal standing to challenge a federal district judges ruling that the ban was unconstitutional. Same-sex marriages then resumed in the nations most populous state.
In its limited ruling, the court sidestepped Coopers argument that there is no constitutional right to same-sex marriage and that decisions about whether to allow such unions should be left to the states and voters.
Cooper told Becker that he did not think it appropriate to comment on how he would vote on the issue should he have the opportunity.
What I will say only is that my views evolve on issues of this kind the same way as other peoples do, and how I view this down the road may not be the way I view it now, or how I viewed it 10 years ago, Cooper is quoted as saying.

My family is typical of families all across America. We love each other; we stand up for each other; and we pray for, and rejoice in, each others happiness. My daughter Ashleys path in life has led her to happiness with a lovely young woman named Casey, and our family and Caseys family are looking forward to celebrating their marriage in just a few weeks.
He added: As Becker reports in her book, I told Ashley that what matters most is that I love her and she loves me.
seems the fix was in and the case was intended as a loss with all sides wanting the same outcome.
He should have disowned her. It is no different than if she was dead.

Interesting. One of my daughters was “flirting” with it when in high school. I mean to the point where we were concerned about certain friends that would sleep over and she actually lived with her basketball coach and lesbian lover for a few months after running away (long story. She came back and apologized).
But at no time did I ever even entertain the idea of “living with it” and treating it as normal.
She ended up being straight and even had a college room mate (lesbian) that had a crush on her but my daughter would not have any part of it. I bring it up to point out that a LOT of her friends were lesbians in college and set up the next sentence:
She and I were talking about the “it gets better” movement. She said, “No, it doesn’t.”
If she was to have told me she was marrying a woman, I would have said that she is my daughter and I love her, but I will not support any sin in her life in any way shape or form. This would include homosexual relationship or even the relationship she has now (lives with boyfriend).
Because after all, who are you? A mere citizen with no standing to challenge a Federal Court Judge.
What I will say only is that my views evolve on issues of this kind the same way as other peoples do"
Which is what happens when you get your moral values from the culture rather than from principle.
A lot of families have loved ones with moral problems. It does not change moral principle.
As Becker reports in her book, I told [his daughter] that what matters most is that I love her and she loves me.
Of course you do. She's your daughter. It doesn't change moral principle.
Law rests upon a moral foundation. When that foundation crumbles, the law itself must ultimately collapse.
Members of my family have sinned egregiously in their selfishness. Doesn’t mean I like it or pretend to like it. I just keep things very much on the surface.
Be sure to coerce a Christian photographer and baker to take part in this.
Love does not make evil OK.
the media never reports about the real world parents who kick these perverts out of the house.
What saddens me today is many young people are pushed/told/shoved into believing that homosexuality should be embraced and tried. Schools, media, television shows, music etc... have made homosexuality a true option. It is pushed like trying on a pair of shoes to see if they fit and you “like” the style. Oh... the shoes aren’t a good fit? Well, at least you tried it.. mentality. This “new” introduction to homosexuality saddens me greatly... young people have enough going on with their young lives. This added lifestyle doesn’t improve them... it just confuses and worsens their lives. IMHO.
The gay activists want to do away with everything associated with what they call “Heteronormative” society.
They do! I’ve seen the change in the last 15 years or so. Many television shows have a homosexual character. Commercials now show homosexual couples/parents. Saturate the culture with homosexuality references/characters/etc... and the belief is it will become accepted and embraced. The more people that identify themselves as homosexuals = a stronger voting block. It truly does frighten me.
When does he come out?
It is sinful conduct. It is a sin.
Dick Cheney redux.
It is no different than having a son who sleeps with two or more women at the same time. For a more grotesque example, it is no different than acts of bestiality. It is no different than a grown man having sex with an underage boy. All of these behaviors are unnatural and sinful. They cannot be tolerated or condoned by traditional society.
Yes, this father should have told his daughter “I love you, but I will not participate in nor endorse your sin. You are on your own with it.” He could still have a father-daughter relationship with her but should draw the line at sinful conduct.
Lesbian relationships do not last very long from what I have seen, read and heard. Pray his daughter sees the light and repents.
Pray for all us and for America this Easter.
.....and another life is destroyed by ignoring God and continuing open rebellion against Him.
Isaiah 5:20 applies:
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Men do not try homosexuality
Or experiment with it
They are either attracted to being sodomized by other men....or they arent
I think women may....or be encouraged to
Usually for some can’t relate to men issue or maybe a dearth of male suiters or seen as rebellious
The dominant group of lesbians are the masculines.....the rest are just opportunities
Most younger women today are immoral by the standards I grew up in many years ago
Even church girls
I remember when my oldest daughter told me I had to accept her right to have premarital sex. I told her I did not.
“Then you’ll never see your grandkids”, she replied.
“Then I won’t see them until they are adults”, I replied, “because I won’t be blackmailed!”
Some years later, we get along fine and she agrees marriage ought to come before pregnancy, and she tells her kids the same thing. Her ability to sin doesn’t mean I have to approve of it any more than she needs to approve of any of my sins.
If you care about someone’s happiness, you rebuke sin. Can you imagine her Dad saying, “My daughter Ashleys path in life has led her to happiness with a lovely young goat named Jack...”?
“Charles J. Cooper, a former top official in the Reagan Justice Department and onetime Republican lawyer of the year, learned of his daughters sexual orientation during the legal battle over Californias Proposition 8...”
If that is true, then it may be grounds to rehear and overturn the Prop 8 case as it is evident that Mr. Cooper at the time of the case was before the SCOTUS was not acting as an advocate for Prop 8 and the Pro Family Christian voters of California, but was instead conspiring with the homosexual opponents of Prop 8.
