That’s hogwash. An Imam marrying a 9-year-old in Saudi Arabia would certainly NOT, nor should he ever, be recognized as “married” to her in every other country.

I am obviously not an expert in international law, but if some Saudi sheik brought his 12-year-old wife to America, I do not think he could be arrested even if that marriage violates American law. And "American law" is not even pertinent, because we do not have a national marriage law. Now, if there is some international law or treaty that bans marriage to a 12-year-old, then the sheik could be arrested. But I probably anger people here even more by referring to "international law."
