U.S. should send troops to quell Ukraine crisis
washingtonpost.com ^ | April 15, 2014 | James Jeffrey

Posted on 04/15/2014 10:41:46 AM PDT by Berlin_Freeper

Despite much diplomatic effort, the situation in Ukraine worsens. A coordinated Russian campaign, including an invasion threat, special operations destabilization in eastern Ukraine patterned on the Crimea model, and warnings of gas cutoffs document ever more clearly Vladimir Putin’s aim to cripple the Ukrainian government and control much or even all of this strategically vital European country.

“Obama got dissed!” isn’t causus Beli for unleashing Nuclear War upon the planet.

That is casus belli, "cause of [for] war". Casus is fourth-declension and masculine, belli is second-declension and neuter, expressed here in the genitive singular case.

Doesn’t matter if you are from Boston or Sacramento, nor East Tennessee or Richmond...we are all susceptible to C team jihadists.

But planned operations all over Russia would be a nice way to remind Putin and his Russian adventurers that others can play the dirty ops game they like to play.

"Overall, it may be cheaper to stop the Russians at Ukraine."

True, but in U.S. civilian politics now, the main recipients of debt/revenues are trying to stop any defense action that might affect their incomes or positions for now. They don't care about what happens tomorrow. Some of their online friends are even posting as foreign enemies against Americans. Their were similar political interests exhibiting the same behaviors before WWII.

“People who are obviously more refined and discerning such as yourself should decide where our troops spill their blood. May we beg your forgiveness for daring to questioning your judgement in such matters?”

I hit a nerve with the Alex Jones thingy lol. The only thing you need to beg forgiveness for is kissing the Jack Boot of Russian oppression and the wannabe little Hitler, Putin.

You are completely full of it. The fact that our taxes might be paying for military pay does NOT give us some sort of right to send them off as modern day mercenaries. The military is for the defense of OUR country, not people halfway across the world in a place most Americans couldn’t find on the map.

Mercenaries fight for any flag as long as that flag pays them, and that pay usually includes all the loot they can cart off. US military personnel aren't mercenaries. They're fighting for the Stars and Stripes. That they engage in warfare on behalf of our allies (treaty or non-treaty) doesn't make them mercenaries - we're merely leveraging local manpower and resources that would otherwise be used against us by the invaders of the country we're helping.

Not that there's anything wrong with being a mercenary, of course. The Swiss Guards were legendary for their tenacity - once hired, they were renowned for fighting to the last man. Gustavus Adolphus built an empire using what was, in large part, a mercenary force.

It might surprise you to hear this, but that's the way governments work. Soldiers don't decide where they feel like fighting. If you want to decide what battles you want to fight, don't sign up for the military.

Hey, I personally wanna take over a country. Can you order up the US military to go do it for me ?

There's nothing wrong with the military doing this right ?

We'll just tell the news media that it's for reasons of national security, or we're fighting Soviet aggression or something.

Like I said, nice hat.

It's too bad you had to go to Vietnam against your will, but that's the way most occupations work. The average working stiff doesn't get to pick his assignments. The military's a tough one because you're there for the duration of your contract, but that's mainly because most of it is spent not doing any productive work (i.e. fighting wars) until the balloon goes up, after which - if no contracts existed - there would be a rush for the exits.

You should not throw out your shoulder out patting yourself on the back, oh wise one. I don’t happen to listen to truthers. Perhaps you should try harder next time, your omnipotence.

I don’t happen to care about the Russian dictator. Nor the Syrian one. Nor the Iranian one. Nor the Argentinian one. Nor the Korean one.

Perhaps your worship would like to explain why the Russian dictator is any particular threat to me and mine? Or my neighbor? Or my kin several states away? Or my distant relations on the west coast?

If I , a mere acolyte, could dare impose to ask that of one so gifted of insight.

Let me also thank you for your service in Vietnam. You may have done it unwillingly, but your service, along with those of other American, Australian, New Zealand, Thai, Korean and Pinoy servicemen, was essential in holding back the expansion of the Russian empire. It drained their coffers and led eventually to the empire’s partial collapse in the early 90’s.

The heads of state of Russia and Argentine are not dictators. They were both democratically elected.

Ukraine is EU’s issue not ours...They need to handle this regardless of our affiliation with Nato. Not a single US soldier should be there on the ground...not one!

I don’t care if the Ukrainians kill all the Russians or the Russians kill all the Ukrainians. All I care about is that not one drop of our boys blood is split over their problems.

” Perhaps you should try harder next time, your omnipotence.”

I get it. If someone disagrees with you, they are “omnipotent”.

“I don’t happen to care about the Russian dictator...Nor the Iranian one. “

I know RonPaul and AlexJones for life. You have no perspective of history and you are to the left of Obama. Congratulations.

“Perhaps your worship would like to explain why the Russian dictator is any particular threat to me and mine? “

...or the Nazi dictator circa 39...Useful idiots are always necessary.
