It’s pretty unusual to have any type of cloud cover here in Tahoe at night - unless it’s snowing - but tonight we did have that very thin high cloud cover.

Lot’s of fun watching the moon slowly get covered. Too bad the clouds took out some of the view.

I’m out here in Northern California. I had a great view up until 40 minutes ago.
Now I see nothing. Darn clouds.

Think we’re maxed out here in Dallas area. The bottom area is brighter than the top. But still dark red.

DUH! Been too long since I’ve seen/heard “War of the Worlds”.

In the early ‘70s, I found an album at a flea market that was a recording of the original radio broadcast. If you didn’t hear the very first few seconds, you didn’t know it was Wells’ production. I could see how so many people freaked out when they heard it that night.
I wish I still had it. I don’t know what happened to it. Moved too many times and it got lost in the shuffle. :-(

It looks like clouds are moving in wherever NASA’s telescope is. I hope they don’t get any thicker than they are right now.

I’m so glad we have the internet and livestreaming so we don’t have to miss things like this. It’s raining here in TN and I’m so p.o.’d!

Until I got to the end of your sentence I was wondering who the heck would watch on the internet when they could see the real thing outside. Sure hope you get a break in the clouds. It is cloud free where I am and it is really a spectacular sight. I don't get much worked up over stars and planets (not my thing) but this is really a wonderful sight. I was told on another thread what looks like a bright star next to the moon is Mars.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a chance in heck of seeing it here. We have rain for several more hours. Never seems to fail. Let there be an eclipse (lunar or solar), a fabulous meteor shower, etc. and we get rain. My dad got me interested in the skies when I was young and it stuck. If it was clear here, I’d be watching this through my telescope. As it is, I’m stuck watching it on the computer screen. pooey!

I was told on another thread what looks like a bright star next to the moon is Mars.

The bright star just below and to the right of the moon as viewed with just your eyes is the star Spica. Well off to the right of the moon is reddish Mars. Even further off to the left and fainter and slightly yellowish is Saturn.

About 90% in North Dakota at the moment. Deep dark red with a light sliver at the bottom.

Could see the moon fine until the fun stuff started happening. Then full cloud cover. Saw part of the eclipse but wanted to see the red part. Oh well. Crick in my neck now from sitting out in the park for hours.

Doorman thinks I’m nuts. He said, “Were you looking for a parking spot?”

I had that album, too. There audio CDs available now on Amazon, and probably elsewhere.

I got home from work at 1 am and planned on walking outside at around 2 To take a peak but my neighbor was in his driveway with a telescope so we stood out there together talking until it totally eclipsed. (and freezing our butts off) Never saw “red.” Looked like a grayish orange to me. Anyways, the discussion with neighbor was cool because he turns out to be a pretty smart guy. Awake and enlightened. Could even be a FReeper for all I know:)

Also: http://live.slooh.com

You can also get a Slooh membership...cheaper than buying a telescope & a CCD astronomy camera! ;-)
