That small group of cows is similar to our small herd here.
We only have 60 acres or so and it’s about the limit for the land.
We have freezers full of very tasty beef! YUM.
Fresh eggs from free range chickens and meat from grass fed beef. No hogs though...they are just too stinky :-)
It’s real work taking care of the very few cows we have..I can’t imaging having 900 head..whew
I want to get some goats, I really like goats. Can’t abide sheep though.
I saw a cow have a calf one time....it was amazing!
Before I lost my husband we had a Case International Tractor and Farm equipment Dealership, among some other business ventures, so I was familiar with many farmers in our area....but not much with their actual farms itself.
In the rear of our Dealership a farmer leased the property and barn from us to raise ‘beef cattle’. It was not til then that I realized there were beef cattle and milking cattle! (Dah)
I think with 900 head of cattle...is why Cliven has that small helicopter....he can keep an eye on them then.
I understand they lost about 130 head due to the BLM’s driving them so hard they died from heat exhaustion....and because it was calfing season many of the little ones were seperated from the mothers because the BLM helicopter pilots rode too close to the ground etc. That’s not counting the ones they had already hauled off before they could be stopped.
