Big Food and huge grocery chains have figured out a way to keep selling their product to people who have no money.

WalMart, Trader Joes, Publix, Safeway, Super Fresh, A&P, ACME, Food Giant, Piggly Wiggly, Shop n Save, Wegmans, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Papa Johns, and every other company has realized that without EBT, their profits would nose dive.

So they lobby Congress for Billions more down the gullet.

Does God Approve Of Welfare?

Excellent article at link on the subject.

Although I strongly approve of the author's actions toward meeting the needs of the poor in her own community, I take objection to a couple statements in her article.

"The fact that our government has historically provided assistance to its citizens is proof that many legislators in the past understood the Biblical idea of charity and caring for the poor."

God does not call on government to provide for the poor, He calls on His people. She is doing just that and not relying on government.

and

"The irony is that the political party that claims to represent Christian values wants to cut off the sucklings without providing them an alternative way to survive. This is both an insult and an affront to the Kingdom of God."

Many wealthy members of the GOP, who she is obviously referring to, make it possible for the poor to come out of poverty by providing education and economic opportunity, not by coddling them and spoon feeding them like liberals. Liberals may think they are providing charity, but they are in truth fostering irresponsibility and ingratitude among the poor (everything’s an entitlement now and the less responsible I am, the more I'm owed from the government) in addition to robbing those who do give from their plenty the blessing of giving to the poor.

A quote from one of my favorite articles by Selwyn Duke says, "... they [conservatives] tend to recognize that true love means giving your fellow man what he needs, not necessarily what he wants. Conservatives also believe in charity, only, we know that it doesn't mean giving a person the shirt off someone else's back. We know that anyone with a good heart has compassion, but we don't believe that telling someone who's hurtling down a road toward Perdition that he should stay the course if he enjoys the scenery qualifies as such."
