BUNKERVILLE, Nevada (Reuters) - U.S. officials ended a stand-off with hundreds of armed protesters in the Nevada desert on Saturday, calling off the government's roundup of cattle it said were illegally grazing on federal land and giving about 300 animals back to the rancher who owned them.
The dispute less than 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas between rancher Cliven Bundy and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management had simmered for days. Bundy had stopped paying fees for grazing his cattle on the government land and officials said he had ignored court orders.
Anti-government groups, right-wing politicians and gun-rights activists camped around Bundy's ranch to support him in a standoff that tapped into long-simmering anger in Nevada and other Western states, where vast tracts of land are owned and governed by federal agencies.

make that “first aid,” not just “first.”
Is there any real purpose for the Federal Government to own as much land as they do especially in the Western States? In the east most land is either private or state owned. Perhaps the fed should divest it’s self of this excess land via auctions with the proceeds going to retire national debt. Couldn’t some politician at the national level run on this?

This post is so important that it deserves to be a thread of its own.
Its beautiful to see the Feds pulling back for now. However we know from experience that the leftists in this Government will always keep trying to exert total control over “We the People.” They will never believe as our founders did that common men can govern themselves.
IMHO, the absolute worst outcome would be if the BLM backing down got Harry off the hook. We should all be fighting to keep his involvement in the headlines as long as possible. Gosh, maybe even get some dimwit in Congress to look into it.

Was that you and Bill?
Was that the pig thing? Oh, dear, yes, that was me... I disavow any knowledge of what else went on that day, especially since our host broke out his, er, arsenal...
Not the pig thing. The salmon, moose kielbasa and oyster thing.

WTF?
BS. I was there. I met her there.
You're just coverin':)
I wasn’t there either. It was my evil twin. Really. You know, the guy into guns and beer and radical Constitutional politics...oh, wait a minute. OK, yeah, it was me.
Correcting myself of a typo I made.
I honestly don’t remember Michelle being at Seattle’s house that afternoon. But maybe I’m having a senior moment.
Generic. It has been making the rounds for years.
What's next for the feds? Militarize the DMV? You go in to pay your registration, and they will have cubicle snipers pointing guns at you. Then they will sick their DMV attack dogs on you, tackle you and taze you if you don't surrender your car to them? This makes as much sense as having the BLM militarized.
And the BLM is completly out of control. These federal agencies should not be militarized.
This all really started with the government shutdown
The fed agencies in D.C. were WAY OUT OF LINE. They put barricades around the WWII memorialand other memorials. They tried to shut the roads down and bullied people. They attempted to shut down the ocean.
They have no clue what the Constitution is about.
