Representative Paul Ryan at Iowa Republican Dinner

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Rep. Paul Ryan is having his “I-told-you-so” moment.

During a speech here to the Iowa Republican Party, on his second trip back to the Hawkeye State since losing in 2012, Ryan said that one reason he and Republican nominee Mitt Romney couldn’t top President Barack Obama was they had to “shadow box against big government in theory.”

Now, Ryan said, Americans have “big government in practice, and the theory is a whole lot different than what it looks like in practice.”

“We kept trying to say this is what Obamacare is going to do, this is what Dodd-Frank,” will do, Ryan said. “The challenge was it was sort of our word against theirs. Because they did not put their program in practice yet.”

He also said it was a “bitter irony” that the president proposed cuts to the military the same week Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine.

Presidential politics is king here, but Iowa is one of the most crucial states in November’s midterm elections. Sen. Tom Harkin’s (D-Iowa) retirement gave Republicans one of their best pickup opportunities, and two House seats will be open.

Ryan waded into the contentious Senate race, taking a shot at Democratic candidate Rep. Bruce Braley. At a closed fundraiser, Braley spoke derisively about Sen. Chuck Grassley’s (R-Iowa) agricultural background, questioning whether he’s qualified to become the chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Let me type slowly so you can follow along….I am only talking about the debate because it was EXEMPLARY OF HOW THEY RAN THEIR ENTIRE DADBURN CAMPAIGN!!!! WHAT IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OVER YOUR HEAD ABOUT THAT?

And second, I reject the premise that the debate had nothing to do with it. A campaign is a series of many events - they all matter - to one degree or another. If you can’t see that, then you don’t know anything about politics and I would suggest a knitting or crochet forum and not a political one.

1) the vice president has next to zero input in how the campaign is waged
2) critiquing Ryan for how Romney chose to run shows your naïveté
3). Stick with the all caps. It suits you.

If that's the best you got - you are way out of your league - not only in basic reading comprehension, but certainly in understanding politics. You sound like some formulaic failed GOP consultant with your little pat talking points.

I'll send you a free copy if you want. You need it:

Our next nominee needs to be ... someone under 60 years old (no more old farts) ...

Because "old farts" are so... what, old? Un-young? Out of touch? Yesterday's news? Senile? Wrinkly?
