Species Rhodies/Azaleas *can*, if they aren’t cut back for 30-40yrs. Hybrids and cultivars don’t get that big. Look at the trunk at ground level, and the leaves; not indicative of Rhodies or Azaleas. It’s a Camellia.

They can get big in the south:

The deer and I keep ours trimmed, but I have seen some that may be that tall. We also have mountain laurel here that resembles the rhododendron, which gets rather tall.
