The IRS, of all government agencies, probably should be subject to more scrutiny than any of the others. ANY whisper of scandal or failure to administer their own regulations in a scrupulously honest and transparent manner should be reason enough for both citizen and Congressional oversight, with criminal prosecutions for malfeasance or politically motivated preferential treatment.

The regulations themselves should be open to review, to assure they actually do comply with laws passed that provide the claimed authorization.

Of all agencies that should be rigidly protected from political influence peddling and corruption, this one should be held up as the example for all others to follow.

If the IRS can get away with concealing lapses or selectively enforcing the law, then there just isn’t much left.
