It appears that they can collect even if they don’t *know* he had one.

If they knew, they’d be able to provide some details.

I heard about this on the morning shows in Austin. The IRS can go back decades to find some overpaid SS dollars, but the fed cannot tell us how many people have signed up and paid for democrapcare. Something sticks in DC, and it is not the sewer.

“They can dip into your checking account, but there’s a much higher PR price to pay if they start doing that in what looks like an arbitrary manner”

I can see the run on banks now. And I can see bankers running even faster to bought politicians.

My real heartburn stems from the shift to “guilty until proven innocent” and this comment in the story:

“But many other taxpayers whose refunds have been taken say they’ve been unable to contest the confiscations because . . . Social Security cannot provide records detailing the original overpayment . . . “

“Social Security officials say that if children indirectly received assistance from public dollars paid to a parent, the children’s money can be taken, no matter how long ago any overpayment occurred.”

As bad as the provision is which, even worse us the WaPo saying it was 3 years ago instead of 6 years ago when both Nancy and Harry were in charge. This is in the laps of the dems, a point the WaPo tried to hide.

No agenda there......

You mean the Ronald Reagan the Hollywood actor and ex-union president, who expanded abortion in California and raised taxes? He’d be crucified as a RINO on FR. Newt’s burnt in electronic effigy every time his name pops up here.FReepers need to grasp hold of reality and steer towards it always.

Hope “punch the Tea party” Mcconnell is paying you well.

If you think this mechanism will ever, EVER be used to combat welfare or EBT or EITC fraud, I have a bridge to sell you. It is simply another tool in the toolbox for the government to subjugate actual working people. “There’s no way to rule honest men...”

The 0bamacare law includes a section on confiscation if one takes on Medicaid.

The government’s welfare system is not a charity system. If one let’s the village take care of the family, then the village owns all that you have; because the village bought and paid for all you have.

Yup, this is something that the ObamaCare drones don't publicize at all, and I keep hearing about stories where parent's who can't get their kids covered on the BarkyCare exchanges are told to just sign the kids up for Medicate... I wonder when the government is going to confiscate the parent's home after the kids have some major claims?

And if the parents go on medicade, the kids will be liable for paying for it, even after the parents die!

Key Words ... “overpayment”, and “Indirect benefit”.

Feeding, houseing and decent clothes for children under 18 does not count as indirect benefit.

It’s very common situation in families where one of the parents die, the children receive benefits, but it goes to the guardian. These benefits stop at 18, unless the child is going to college then it’s 21. At which point, the child is on the hook if the parent is contributing to the tuition, stipends and other living expenses.

It is beyond me how anyone thinks the politicians and bureaucrats have our best interests at heart.

How about letting the corporate portion be listed as part of the employees pay, then deduct both portions. Let that simmer for a couple of years and then introduce the option to let younger employees keep their portion to invest.

It’s an excellent opportunity to argue for simple, clean bills that are clear and easy to read/understand. Keep picking at the “you have to pass it to find out what’s inside it” scab.

Democrat care can continue to pay dividends for several election cycles.
