Ya think? I have five "Dollar General" stores within 5 miles of my house.

Along with a good handful of "Dollar Tree" and "Family dollar". And the usual Walmart and CVS and Walgreens, and Grocery Stores, too.

In my neighborhood, they're putting in one of those new "WalMart Neighborhood" stores (a stripped down WM). That'll likely put a stake through Dollar General's heart.

Walmart is more expensive than Dollar General for a lot of things. If Walmart wants to compete for market share, its margins may go down, which won't be good for the stock. The Walmart formula was superior logistics + superior IT. These days, everyone has the same logistics and IT, perhaps in part due to Walmart alumni getting jobs at the other chains.

Those “Walmart Neighborhood” stores are a lot like the old Walmarts of twenty or more years ago. What is funny is that those same old stores now sit vacant in a lot of places.
