Those who are relieved the student didn’t have a gun need to watch “Surviving Edged Weapons” (Calibre Press, maybe on You Tube). Saw it years ago during trainings and never forgot it.
In this case, the knives were in the hands of a young kid. Knives in the hands of a strong kid would be a slaughter. I know someone who virtually cut his lawyer's head off with a fish boning knife. He was one of the first people to use the insanity defense to get out of a prison sentence. Something like this is easy to hide and razor sharp:
