BREAKING: House Ways and Means Committee Votes to Refer Lois Lerner For Criminal Charges
Townhall.com ^ | April 9, 2014 | Katie Pavlich

The House Ways and Means Committee has voted to 23-14 along party lines to refer former head of tax exempt groups at the IRS Lois Lerner to the Justice Department for prosecution. Although the details about exactly what charges will be have not yet been released, lawmakers are arguing Lerner has not been truthful with Congress or the IRS inspector general and leaked confidential tax information.

Last time a referral like this happened, it was to Major League Baseball player Roger Clemens, who was pursued by the Department of Justice for lying to Congress but was exonerated in court.

This is a test for the Department of Justice and the Obama administration. What's more important? Baseball and steroids? Or the most powerful federal agency abusing its power to target innocent conservative groups?

Last summer President Obama called the targeting "outrageous" and promised to hold people responsible and accountable for what happened. If the Justice Department refuses to pursue charges against Lerner, it's fair to say one reason is because they don't want information leading back to the administration coming out in court.

Tomorrow the House Oversight Comittee will vote on whether to hold Lerner in contempt of Congress.

Sounds like check, if not checkmate, the way you state it. But Holder can agree, or stall, and if he agrees then do a kangaroo job of exonerating.

Well what can the Republicans do?

Target conservatives, as usual.

“Supporting the people who are doing this...” Doing what, exactly?

They referred a liar for prosecution to the Justice Department. A Department which you know as well as I do is run by a corrupt and worthless person that will not lift a finger to see that such a prosecution is carried out.

In short, they emitted a lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Whoever it was that posted a pic of Il Douche and crew yukking it up has the reaction of the rats illustrated quite good. They know precisely who they are dealing with in the House “leadership”: a quivering mass of spineless goo that is long on talk but real short on meaningful action.

What steps do they now take? Sit and wait? Yes, that’s exactly what they’ll do, all the while pointing out how unprecedented and drastic their actions were. Perhaps, after October, they’ll send another strongly worded letter...

We don’t expect much from the “leadership” but inaction, surrender and betrayal. We expect these outcomes because we have been continually subjected to them since the worthless Boehner was sworn in a Speaker and assembled his lickspittles as a “leadership” team. Il Douche has implemented everything he has desired without so much as a whimper from the “leadership” while all of us were imploring them to do SOMETHING. Instead, we were attacked as being “whacko” and “wild-eyed” and the rats got off without a hangnail.

The action they should have taken? Thrown the bitch in the House Jail. Issue a statement that, since the AG is currently in Contempt of the House, and that the matter in which the prisoner is implicated involves the AG, the House has no confidence in his discretion or judgment pursuant to his Office. Therefore, the House will do his job for him.

Oderint dum metuant.

I was not referring to the DOJ at all, by the way.

The pressure will be on the administration to explain why they aren’t pursuing criminal charges when Congress is requesting they do.

There isn’t going to be any pressure because Boehner refuses to engage the kenyan directly. Hit and run attacks like this do not shape the beltway battlefield. They melt away due to lack of GOP focus and the MSM moves on to the next crisis.
