Rand Paul can win and he is not Mitt Romney who was basically just a liberal. Rand Paul is more of libertarian than a conservative, if elected he will not govern as a true conservative, particularly on social issues. I am not sure he is less electable than Ted Cruz. Cruz does not pander, and is willing to say hard truths and take unpopular principled positions. Is there still any room in our nation for such politicians?

Absolutely Rand Paul is another Romney.
A big portion of the conservative base will only vote for a social conservative. We saw this last time.

Rand Paul cannot win because of 3 salient facts:
1. His Amnesty Proposal
2. His walking away from the Social issues of conservatism.
3. He vacillating on everything conservative looking for a set of policy positions that will get him the most votes (A LA Mitt Romney).

With the shift in demographics, it's become a simple numbers game: the gimme gimme crowd will overwhelm any serious, thoughtful candidates. It's not a bad deal. In return for all the government goodies dispensed to them, all they need to do is go vote once or twice a year, intelligent public discourse be damned.
