PERTH: Another pulse signal was detected in the southern Indian Ocean today by Australian Defence Vessel (ADV) Ocean Shield while searching for the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370.
Earlier a Chinese ship, Haixun 01, detected two short pulse signals also known as acoustic signal 36 hours ago on Friday and in the afternoon on Saturday.
It’s confirmed, then, that something has been detected. Some kind of signal at 37.5 hz. What it is, we don’t know for sure.
Unclear as to whether the pings picked up from the two separate vessels were in the same area or in totally different areas. Anyone know?
Two "distinct" areas, 300 nautical miles apart from one another. This report by the LA Times is far more descriptive.

Seems curious, unless some underwater effect is causing the ping to travel?
Australians might have a chance of finding something here. Malaysians don’t have a prayer of finding a drop of water in the middle of the bloody ocean.

follow-on article from the Guardian. Coordinates are “about 25 degrees south and 101 degrees east” and a result of refinement of satellite data calculating the flight path. The depth of the area is “four and a half kilometres straight down”

False alarm seeded by the PLAN was my first thought too, Gura. What better way for them to get a look at our abilities to respond in a hurry?

They just showed on the news the device that the Chinese are using as a ping detector —
It’s a handheld low tech device that extends at most a foot deep into the water.
No one’s rushing to check this newest Chinese ping out —
A couple of days ago the headline was “Submarine joins hunt for black box”. Now search ships are picking up something in the search area, but 300 miles apart. Hmm...?

Exact same thing I was thinking.
It’s “just a coincidence” just as the batteries are running out the very last signals are picked up, “proving” the jet is in the ocean.
Of course there probably won’t be time to actually locate the BB before the signals quit.

Am I mistaken or is the Chinese ping area appear to be short of the 811 Ping line.
I just heard that the search area has just been adjusted again to now include the Chinese pings.
Meanwhile on an airstrip in Pakistan/Iran or Diego Garcia, :-)
One of my thoughts were that someone from CNN took a small pinger that duplicates the signal but is weaker and erratic and conveniently drops it over an undersea trench to keep up suspense and viewership.
