TRENTON Gov. Chris Christies administration wants to increase taxes on electronic cigarettes for the sake of the publics health, state Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff said today.
Our goal is to achieve rough parity with the tax burden on conventional cigarettes. Why? Our main concern is public health, Sidamon-Eristoff said at an Assembly Budget Committee hearing today. Contrary to the claims of some users, e-cigarettes have not been shown to be a safe alternative to regular cigarettes. Nor are they a proven path to smoking cessation.
Christies budget anticipates $35 million in revenue by applying the $2.70 per pack regular state tax on cigarettes to the electronic cigarettes, which deliver nicotine in the form of water vapor. Users of the products have flooded recent Senate and Assembly budget committee meetings to oppose the tax.

Can’t really afford it ... but I’ll buy the whip.
If I can be trusted to have a bottle of shiny blue windex in my house, I think I can keep my vaporizer and guns out of reach of my kids. Kids have always reached for cigarettes because they aren't supposed to. This is no different and it doesn't require EPA or other regulatory efforts to make a law prohibiting sale to kids.
Bee & Ess ! And I’m not talking about ‘Aunt Bea’ either.
What the chubby RINO really means is TAX MONEY to spend!
we all know this has nothing to do with safety, it’s all about the tax money.
and a fat-ass RINO is the one to prove us right.
,funny they got my mom off smoking real cigs.

Those two statements are diametrically opposed, and contradictory.
Mindless bureaucracies and elected criminals can't shed that ol' "because we can" gene...
Can't be bothered with the fact that e-cigarettes are available 100% nicotine free.
Under those circumstances, using the word "parity" is beyond a cynical joke!
He apparently is also trying to plug a budget hole with this measure.
Nanny State PING!
Thanks for the ping!
The fat piece of crap is the last person who needs to be lecturing people about health.
