raising the price by $100 to $485 for every 1,000 cubic meters of gas
1,000 cubic meters is 35,315 cubic feet, or 35mcf and about the same MMBTUs. Therefore, Russia is increasing the price from $2.80/mcf to $13.70/mcf. The average European import price is $11.00/mcf, varying widely by location. The U.S. Henry Hub spot market is $4.50/mcf, but liquifaction, shipping to Europe and regasification will cost $3.50/mcf and that isn't even permitted by Obama.
So Putin's new price is close to, if not "spot on" the market.
Neither the U.S. nor the Ukraine, has reason to complain.
Are we shipping much LNG currently? Just curious.
