I can’t speak for others but my mother’s family settled in Arizona. They moved out there from Texas in the early 20th century. My mother was 1st generation American of Mexican descent. All of my cousins, uncles, aunts who reside in Arizona are very conservative. They despise liberals in general and Obama in particular.
