There are a couple more hurricane songs that are on my “to get” list. One is “The Miami Storm” by Vernon Dalhart (1926), which is about the 1926 Miami hurricane. Dalhart chronicled many of the natural and man-made disasters of the 1920’s. The other is “The Porto Rico Storm” by Carson Robison (1928) which recounts the 1928 hurricane that devastated Puerto Rico before hitting Florida and creating a storm tide on the shores of Lake Okeechobee that killed 2,000 people—a bigger death toll than Katrina in 2005, yet this hurricane is largely forgotten. Neither of these tunes have made it to Youtube.
