Bull. The sense of safety has been eroding since 2008.
The troops know the administration does not have their back.

I believe the second amendment applies to soldiers too, but if they don't want to arm everybody who so chooses on a base, at least arm a core of certified, trusted and trained soldiers and personnel so at least someone can mount an IMMEDIATE defense in case of a crazy person or terrorist attack.
I'm sure the military are capable of figuring out how to do that.

What's really insane is disallowing CCW holders from carrying in certain locations and thereby making those offices or locations into happy hunting grounds for deranged killers who know their victims have no way to defend themselves.
