Because many people who try pot stop drinking completely. It is far safer, healthier, less impairing, does not alter metabolism, easier to carry, easily homegrown, far cheaper (even when illegal) and not physically addictive. Better than alcohol in every way.
Of course reducing alcohol consumption is terrifying to alcohol companies.
It is not addictive and that is why people are so fanatical to get there hands on it.
