Only the Father of Lies could twist biblical text to distort the God given tradition of honoring others, into an act of Pagan worship of animals, sex, money, etc.
It isn’t beneath the devil to use the bible against God. Honor and love of others is good. The devil is very deceptive.

I once had a Jehovah’s Witness tell me the cross on my Rosary was idol worship. Go figure.
