Politicos forced Hospitals to treat anyone showing up at a medical building. The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) was passed by the US Congress in 1986 as part of the Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act (COBRA), much of which dealt with Medicare issues. The law's initial intent was to ensure patient access to emergency medical care and to prevent the practice of patient dumping, in which uninsured patients were transferred, solely for financial reasons, from private to public hospitals without consideration of their medical condition or stability for the transfer. Although only 4 pages in length and barely noticed at the time, EMTALA has created a storm of controversy over the ensuing 15 years, and it is now considered one of the most comprehensive laws guaranteeing nondiscriminatory access to emergency medical care and thus to the health care system. Even though its initial language covered the care of emergency medical conditions, through interpretations by the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) (now known as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), the body that oversees EMTALA enforcement, as well as various court decisions, the statute now potentially applies to virtually all aspects of patient care in the hospital setting. Thus, all physicians on the hospital staff, not just emergency physicians, need to be familiar with its general requirements.

Interesting take. I guess we shall see.As far as people no longer being blackmailed that’s just a necessary evil in politics. It will never end. All part of the nasty game they play.

I think you make a much bigger picture Rock. That being zero care and its 3,000 pages was never designed to work. Just give the dems 18% of the economy along with so much political advantage they would never lose another election. Such as dem voter registrations now being mailed to anyone who sings up with zero care With the X already marked in the dem box.

LOL,you have my sympathies Fish!
Many of us are in the same boat.
I am currently paying close to $2,500 per month in just excise tax alone! Before the 20 other taxes I pay are all tabulated. Along with huge accounting fees, etc. etc. its all way out of hand.
YOu gotta admit though it would be cool to see the big mooch have to settle for a MOtel Six some time!

zero care and its 3,000 pages was never designed to work. This whole thing already happened here. We had the 90's death spiral, followed by the phony Dirigo Health Administration. (the state motto, now tainted forever)
We had the second highest premiums in the US. Now the whole thing is repeating itself...nationwide.

For the last five years we’ve owed no income taxes as our money sat in a 401K and we collected disability.
I sure don’t mind paying my taxes as, God bless, almost $8K of that money was money coming IN from gains in the stock market. IE....my “accountant” and I both knew I would owe this so decision was to keep it in the 401K and withdraw when due.
course now I gotta do the quarterly deposit.
Here’s my bigger point....I am, believe it or not, an ACCOUNTANT.
Made my living at it, worked at hospitals, gubmint contractors....specialty is payroll in fact so I unnerstand withholdings, quarterly deposits....did it all.
But serious RG, the taxes today are so out of control that I just can’t do it anymore.
My husband’s brother, thank God, is a CPA and he does my taxes for me....it would be a fortune to have to hire someone to do it. He’s really great at it and is a real Tea Party type floating in the jetsam and flotsam of Massachusetts’ governance. Remember my beloved husband made me look like a left-winger with his curmudgeon political views so too is his brother from that same mold.
he knows I am target for an IRS audit, I can feel it deep in my bones....already Delaware’s trying to pass a law against me but it’s boring....but anyway....I shall pay every damn penny I owe and will follow all laws, mostly, to the hilt.
Cause they’re out to get us, call me nuts.

This decision by the LSM to crucify Christie over some traffic lanes but ignore massive corruption across the expanse of the Demovik Party is PATHETIC. That said, as Im sure you know, they are inadvertently doing Gods work for us if they happen to eliminate Christie from the running for 2016.
My impression of the Fox coverage is that they love Christie, and are working daily to restore his image. Most of the people who work at Fox have a New York/NJ/CT view of the USA.

The Dems are certainly worried about something. A friend who works with the local Republican Party (as I do) received an email from ActBlue:
“S..... —
Theres no way to sugar-coat it: Right-wing money could win this election.
Republicans just raised $15.1 million in ONE DAY. Karl Rove is running brand-new attack ads, and the Koch Brothers network has already spent $30 million trying to crush Democratic candidates. Were going to lose this election unless Democrats close that gap.
Incredibly, 15,940 grassroots Democrats have already stepped up to support our response in key legislative battlegrounds - but were still $87,101 short of our goal! Please donate before Monday’s end-of-quarter deadline.”
So desperate, they’re spamming Republicans! :-)
