Well. This is interesting. Over at Talkers.com (here) and Mediaite (here) Michael Savage is at it again. Saying, among other things, that he has “stomped” Sean Hannity in the ratings. But the Talkers story is particularly instructive since Talkers is devoted to the business of talk radio. In fact, the publication makes a point of saying that as a rule of thumb, precisely since it is devoted to promoting the institution of talk radio, it doesn’t like to get into what Talkers calls “personal vendettas” between hosts. So it is striking that this story appears at all — and obvious as to why it does. Writes Talkers:

Listened to savage for over 10 years...love his stories, and many of his stances. He’s not boring and he fills a niche in conservative radio that is needed. Does he talk about himself alot...yeah...its just who he is...you can turn the channel if you dont like it.

Michael Savage is a bona-fide IDIOT. Most talk show hosts will discuss other points of view with their callers. If you don't agree with Savage totally, he will say "you're an idiot!!" or some other derogatory remark and hang up.

I think he is incapable of discussing any point of view than his own. Perhaps he can't deviate from whatever is on his teleprompter, like some other idiot we all know about...LOL

Savage is, always has been, and always will be an asshole.

I don't listen to Hannity very often because I don't enjoy his style. But I know people who've worked with him. Without exception, every one of them says he's an extremely nice and generous man.

I listen to Levin and the Indiana station I listen to on my phone (I use the Tune-In application) has Savage coming on after Levin... I don’t even wait for Savage to start talking about himself anymore and change over to a station out of Joplin, MO (I think) and listen to a guy named Jason Lewis.... he is really good, I think. You guys might enjoy his show.

Michael Savage is what you get when you let an inebriated buffoon get behind a microphone. He's more of a drunken blowhard than a broadcaster, and your average drunken radio blowhard in Burnt Scrotum, New Mexico, is easily Savage's equal in talent and skill. There are times where Savage can actually make it worth my time to listen, but those occasions are so rare that it's just not worth tuning in on the off chance he happens to be lucid that day.

Now, I find Hannity to be redundant to the point of tedium. Gave up on listening to him a long time ago. But the management at Cumulus responsible for switching from Hannity to Savage must be looking at their ratings and asking themselves how it could have all gone so terribly wrong. (Answer: It's Cumulus Media, the least saavy radio operator in the business.)
