The linked article quotes him as saying that he wants to be a “productive conservative” voice on the radio, a perspective that he says is missing. So.... it sounds as if he wants to be a more moderate alternative to Rush, Hannity, et al. Hah! Good luck with that!
Anyway, I am taking a wild guess that there is more to this story. No idea what that is. Men his age (50) very rarely walk away from positions of power that they have spent so much effort attaining.

Corruption or a bimbo/bimboy eruption would be the most likely reasons. Something like steering contracts to his wife’s business interests or maybe he has an intern problem.
