I sort of agree but didn’t want to come out and say it. There’s about a half dozen threads on World Vision. We are called also to forgive others.
Yep. Even in earthly terms, they just played their cards as wrong as they possibly could have.
I do not remember why WV was marked off my list years ago. For me, things never seemed quite right with WV. Lots of organizations, such as WV, do good works in their own names and pocket much more than the change. I like to go where the Spirit leads, in terms of making donations.
It’s gotten looier than in the early 90’s then. I don’t remember such a stricture then when the fundie bible church I went to used World Vision sponsorships. It would have been considered a scandal.
This could be a turning point. Finally their pants went down in public in a way they could not ignore. They should be told to pull them up and buckle the belt of truth again. Telling your child that you desire Jesus to bless them (and similar messages, or sending bibles etc.) shouldn’t need to be out of bounds.
Here is your tough question for the day: Imagine, if you will, a slight twist to the Schindler's List story. As we all know, Schindler and the Nazis both benefited from doing business together. We also know that Schindler had a higher calling. Schindler was using his own power and money to save as many children as possible from the Nazi gas chambers. But here is the twist. Schindler is running low on funds. He comes knocking on your door, explains his plight and asks for a donation. From this meeting you know two things; 1. Schindler is doing business with the Nazis, 2. Schindler is attempting to save children's lives.
You are faced with this decision. Simply, do I or do I NOT donate to his cause?
There has never been such an animal.
In this specific case, I choose “not donate.”
“We are brokenhearted over the pain and confusion we have caused many of our friends, who saw this decision as a reversal of our strong commitment to Biblical authority,” the board reported. “We ask that you understand that this was never the board’s intent.”
Answer: you go to Romans 14, read it, and then become fully persuaded in your own mind on this particular issue. This is exactly what Romans 14 is addressing.
Forgiveness is called for, but restoration requires a few more answers and substantial corrective action.
Now, of course my pastor friend was trying to draw the parallel with World Vision.
Does he believe they screwed up? I don’t doubt it.
Now...here’s a twist in this story: The pastor’s oldest daughter’s husband WORKS at World Vision HQ.

Finally, and in the last paragraph of the press release, they reveal the real reason for this change of heart. Money talked and WV listened.
They passed the offering plate and it came back empty.
In helping the poor, they are doing the Lord’s work, in fact, helping the poor, helping the least of our brothers is helping Christ (imho). This almost makes me wonder if the whole outfit, executive salaries and so on should be looked at closer so the whole World Vision will be under more scrutiny and one would wonder how they could make such a decision...
How? They were probably strong armed, we’ll have to see.
But that’s not the issue, really. The people in the organization who came out and publicly supported homo marriage will need to address that with God; it will be between Him and them.
We, as individuals, can choose to forgive those people while understanding there are consequences of sin which we can’t erase. Much as the pastor who commits adultery, World Vision has disqualified itself from being in its former position. They deliberately defied God’s word on sexual sin, while continuing to proclaim Christ.
We are not supposed to be tolerant of that kind of thing. Forgive personally, yes....continue to support, no.
Be nice if they made the decision because it was the right one, not because Christians stopped giving to them.

It is not the pushing people who need to be fired, it is those who approved it, the Board.
Anyone can try something but that is not the issue.
The issue is actually doing something, not simply trying.
