Jobs's Ultimatum: Lay Out a Vision Fast or Lose the Project
In February 2005, Apple Inc.'s then chief executive, Steve Jobs, gave senior software engineer Greg Christie an ultimatum.
Mr. Christie's team had been struggling for months to lay out the software vision for what would become the iPhone as well as how the parts would work together. Now, Mr. Jobs said the team had two weeks or he would assign the project to another group.
"Steve had pretty much had it," said Mr. Christie, who still heads Apple's user-interface team. "He wanted bigger ideas and bigger concepts."
Mr. Christie's team devised many iPhone features, such as swiping to unlock the phone, placing calls from the address book, and a touch-based music player. The iPhone ditched the keyboard then common on advanced phones for a display that covered the device's entire surface, and it ran software that more closely resembled personal-computer programs.
Mr. Christie has never publicly discussed the early development of the iPhone. But Apple made him available on the eve of a new patent-infringement trial against Samsung Electronics Co. 005930.SE +3.05% to highlight a key element of its legal strategy—just how innovative the iPhone was in 2007, when it arrived.

Apple and Steve Jobs’ genius is taking existing and known technology, adding in some of their patented designs, along with unique implementation of software - and basically TOTALLY DISRUPTING existing markets (basically destroying them) and making WILDLY SUCCESSFUL consumer products, which consumers absolutely love.
The “benchmark” of money and units sold - testify to a very large and very significant part of the consumer market loving it ... :-) ...
AND ... people who find Apple’s products absolutely amazing have already run across the very curious phenomenon of the “Apple-haters” who occupy themselves running around on the Internet and forums seeking out customers who find Apple’s products “amazing” — and incessantly telling them how much they hate Apple products!
I think it’s some kind of mental disorder of some sort.

Yeah, kinda like the Microsoft haters, I don’t hate either one, that’s what’s great about a capitalistic market, we get to have so many choices.
It’s hard to think of an invention, in our lifetime, that rivals the iPhone. From nothing to everyone must own one. Many of my non technical friends embrace it. Sure we had laptops and cellphones, but this brought technology to a level where the masses got on board.
Example, as I gaze out the window, my neighbor walks his dog; staring at his phone, not his dog. A quantum shift in our interaction with the outside world has occurred.
We will be hearing more of these genesis stories in the future.

Now. A new problem. This seems to be since apples last software upgrade.
I can’t stand Microsoft, as they are the worst software company in the world and they make a person’s enjoyment of computer systems WORSE and not better. People are becoming overjoyed to be able to dump Microsoft.
AND ... with that said ... I am not on Microsoft forums, I’m not on Microsoft discussions “between themselves”, I don’t chase around Microsoft articles or people and tell them how BACKWARD and AWFUL they are - in their discussions among themselves — basically because — I am NOT NUTS and CRAZY like these Apple-haters are! Those guys need psychiatric help!
This article is not behind a paywall. A trick I use for WSJ articles is to get them from Google News. Google for some reason usually has the entire text of WSJ articles when they are not available on the WSJ web site.
I’ve got Yahoo mail and I have no problems at all. I did the upgrade within hours of it coming out.
I would suggest first deleting your Yahoo account “on the Apple device” - then setting it back up again.
If that doesn’t work, then I would do a full and total backup on iTunes, then when you’re assured the backup is there and is safe — then RESET your device to original factory condition, and restart the device and use your backup to bring it back to your previous state.
If that doesn’t work, then I would head on down to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store and have them look into your device.

I believe the HP calculators, which are “old hat” now — are more powerful than all the computing power available for the Apollo manned space program, spacecraft and mission going to the moon — and a WHOLE HECK OF A LOT CHEAPER too ... :-) ...

Backup data to a PC instead of sending it out to the internet?
The iTunes “program” (not the iTunes Store or website) is something that resides on your own computer “privately”.
Anyone who has an Apple device (like iPhone, iPad, iPod) should always have that program on their computer for backups and restoring the device. That’s an essential and very important function of the iTunes program.
If you haven’t ever used it before, you should be sure you know that you’re getting a full and complete backup. If you need some good advice on that, use “other users” on this forum to get answers ...

The iTunes “program” is safe and it resides entirely within your own computer. There are some settings that other people turn off, if they don’t want to use all of its functionality (for other purposes, other than backup) — but it’s essential for backup.
Your data is safe as long as you are careful to know how it works - namely the choices you make for the data you want to save. There are different choices. The user discussions would help immensely on that.
