Looks promising unless it says “Made in Japan”.

I thought - under International law (i.e., “treaties”) that the minimum settlement is $105,000. At least that’s what I read in one of the prior articles about this plane.

I thought the recorders only record the last half hour. I’m not sure that in the scenario painted they can help pinpoint the cause. The cause of the crash would be running out of fuel...

I think the cockpit voice recorder only records for 30 minutes at a time.

I’d guess that there are many data recorder log files for various systems, with varying capacities before overwriting. The more dire of the date being recorded, expect the capacity to be more extensive.

The CVR only records 120 min of cockpit conversations then it starts recording over itself. The FDR recorder will record 25 hrs of flight data (28 different parameters I think).
So I don't think the CVR will be of much use, unless the crew was alive and talking til the end,or the deranged pilot was sitting there ranting and raving.
The FDR could prove interesting however, like when the cabin pressure was dumped, etc.
As for locking the copilot/cabin crew out of the cockpit, all I'll say is the crew have a way of getting in.
BTW the passenger oxy masks can be turned off/or deactivated from the cockpit, if there is a fire on board the aircraft, masks are not deployed, as the production of oxygen may further fuel the fire.

The voice recorder is required to record at least a half hour but can be longer. The data recorder has a longer requirement. Wikipedia (yes I know the warnings) states “Most FDRs record approximately 17–25 hours worth of data in a continuous loop”.

In the 777 all of the recorders are solid state chips, only older aircraft use tape.
Originally then recorders were tape , then they went with a disk system (kinda like a CD/R-W)and finally to solid state.
There are some talk of transmitting the data/voice directly to the cloud, don’t know if the newest planes are doing that currently

Didn’t the block boxes from the AF crash continue pinging for several years, until they were found and recovered? Why is he MSM harping on this 30 day window?
