I wouldn’t ban smoking any more than banning overeating, a vice I am all too prone to. That’s silly and paranoid on your part.

I would speak up in the social frown upon it.

I'd ban smoking in a heartbeat from public places, because I remember how foul things were back in the 70's and 80's.

But I wouldn't put a complete ban on it. People need the right to do stupid stuff including stuff that kills them and leaves their relatives with huge medical bills.

I do like the current anti-smoking public service campaigns. They are finally getting serious and telling people the real downside to smoking. I've lost a number of relatives to smoking related cancer, including my own brother at 31.
