While there have been disapproving murmurs about the potential cost of first lady Michelle Obama’s trip to China, the actual cost to taxpayers has remained mere speculation.
New documents, however, reveal that the accommodations the first lady, her daughters and her mother are enjoying were too expensive for even Vice President Joe Biden back in December.
The first family and their staff of about 70 have been staying at the Westin Chaoyang Hotel, in the presidential suite, which USA Today reports costs about $8,400 a night.
According to the documents released last week by the government contracting website Federal Business Opportunities – and highlighted by the Weekly Standard — the cost of the Westin Chaoyang was too expensive for the vice president and his entourage.

Biden stayed at the Motel Six just off the interstate.
It was the only one that had the light on for him.
Maybe they charge extra for embarrassing gaffes (as opposed to normal moronic collectivist bromides).
First of all, the cost of the “presidential suite” does not likely include the cost of the rooms for the 70 staff, as implied in the article. Secondly, WHY would anyone need 70 staff people to go on a trip like this? This is ridiculous. I am sure we are paying for all of their rooms and meals, as well as their salary and benefits.
She's actually not employed by the US taxpayer. We never elected her to anything. She just assumes she can take extra money from her husband's employer over and above his salary and buy stuff. (I really don't mean that as snarky as it sounds. Americans are generous with the leisure/PR travel and personal expenses of first families, but the Obamas abuse it, so I was making the point that technically it's not our problem in the first place.)
$8400 a night for all 70, or just for the select Royal Few? If the former, a relative bargain.

You have to have a little class to have a little shame, and the Obamas have neither. When Americans are suffering from joblessness, exploding Obamacare prices, stifling fuel and energy prices, high taxes and declining lifestyles, they are made to suffer Michelle’s extravagance and thoughtlessness.

I worked in a small business one time, where the owner’s wife was a shareholder. She comes in one time and is fixing to take some chairs from the conference room and take them home. The bookkeeper is like “WTF?”, and her response is that she’s a shareholder in the corporation and the chairs belong to her! D’oh!
Would it help if we bagged on Hill more to compensate?
joe’s an old white guy, his quality score isn’t that high. give him a blue pill and let him stay in a rusted out chinese car, he’ll just hallucinate he’s at the imperial palace.
Everyone understands the need for certain races to place a high value on the image they project (there is a term for this but it alludes me at the moment) but to point it out is RACIST!
